As we listened to the geologists waxing lyrical (and very excitedly) about layers of volcanic rock, we couldn't help wondering if they ever had difficulties at parties explaining what they did for work :)
No, they don't. ;-) As the daughter of a geologist, I can assure you that they will happily go on and on and on and on about the minutae of their work without any idea that they are boring everyone witless... When I used to ask my father (the geologist in the family!) a chemistry question in high school, he'd finish talking 3 hours having told me much more detail than I ever wanted to know. Don't get a geologist started on their work - gently dovetail them into another topic!!

This amuses me. I had no idea that geologists really were like the ones in this documentary. Heh heh! The mud core experts, the geologists - I suppose they're all mystery solvers at the end of the day, right?
