I have finished watching up to episode 12 of
Moonlight which I started watching before.
This show is one of those 'enjoyable to watch' but I can tell that will never be on my favourites. Read
lesbiassparrow's absolutely hilarious
critique of the series pilot. Hee!
Shows I recommend are
Bones,
Kyle XY,
Numb3rs,
Stargate Atlantis,
Wonderfalls,
Dr Who ...
Moonlight is yet another of the recent glorifications of vampirism like
Blood Ties, the
Stephenie Meyer Twilight series, the
Night World series, the incredibly
bad moofie Underworld: Evolution etc. Incidentally, Sophia Myles (one of the stars of Moonlight), was also in the first Underworld movie. She was just sooooooooooooo much better in
Nicholas Nickleby!
To put it frankly, I am not sure why I read/watch vampire romance stuff because I don't find vampires the slightest bit romantic. I've written before that they really annoy me with their
stupid fangy undead/dead indecisiveness. Nonetheless, Moonlight had its moments and despite being incredibly cheesey with a soundtrack that was heavy-handed and overpowering, it was never boring. There were a few: "Things that make you go hmm" moments though.
1. How funny for Alex O'Loughlin (Australian) and Sophia Myles (English) to both be speaking to one another in American accents. I wonder if they ever found that funny.
2. Why did Sophia Myles always have such Dark Circles under her eyes?
3. Why do they frequently film Sophie Myles through gauzy cotton-wool? She's young and pretty, she doesn't need the camera gauze yet!?! Was it to hide the Dark Circles?
4. Why do these shows always have extremely convenient security cameras that have amazing zoom in abilities without losing bit of the resolution? It reminds me of the security cameras at The Centre in
The Pretender that did auto-zoom and focus :P
I also love how the bad guy obligingly pauses and studies the aerosols that he holds in his hand so that Mick can identify the brand of incendiary that he is using
5. I've never hidden the fact that I ABSOLUTELY LOATHE LOVE TRIANGLES WITH A PASSION and so it's very annoying to me that on the one hand Beth keeps making googoo eyes at Mick and snogging him:
Meanwhile, she's snogging and shagging her boyfriend Josh who looks like Ben Stiller's brother. She doesn't look very enthusiastic in this scene
but she does go on to sleep with him.
I really hate her indecisiveness and her whole "torn between two lovers" thing. Pick one! Then when Josh dies, she turns on Mick and acts like the love of her life died and her heart is in the grave, but if she really loved Josh so much, then she shouldn't have been frolicking around with the Aussie Undead.
6. The series really pounds us over the head with its soundtrack. Sometimes it's too loud and intrusive, sometimes they switch tracks without a subtle fade-out. It's just very in your face.
7. If Mick thought that there was a possibility that Coraline was a vampire with Super Hearing, why was he always so careless when talking on the phone with Beth
8. Why does everyone in Moonlight own an
iPhone? They're always texting one another and then the iPhone screen is showed up most lovingly :D Does Apple sponsor the show???
Another snap from the episode Sleeping Beauty :)
Mick has one, too :)
Josh has an iPhone, too and he uses exactly the same wallpaper as me!! :)
Here's a screen cap of MY iPhone's wallpaper :D
I must say that the
iPhone screen is very photogenic and comes across well on the screen :D

I quite like Mick as a character. He seems quite nice, noble and decent. I've liked Sophia Myles in the past because she was Kate Nickleby in
Nicholas Nickleby and was also in the
Dr Who episode
The Girl in the Fireplace but the character of Beth is just like one of those
Too Stupid To Live Heroines who exist in
romance novels. They're always beautiful, smart, sassy, they always stick their nose in where it doesn't belong, they always have to be rescued from the consequences of their own stupidity and they're always journalists because for some reason journalism or photography appears to be the job that allows you to do whatever you want, go wherever you want at any time you want :)
Oddly enough, I rather prefer Coraline to Beth because Coraline is at least quite interesting and I'm intrigued by her motivations and actions. Beth is just like any 'sassy heroine' from a Bad Romance Novel and extremely insipid. I am obtaining episodes 13 and 14 now so shall see how it all ends :)
