My Sassy Girl: US Remake

Mar 29, 2008 20:17

I like the Korean film My Sassy Girl. Download it here and watch it. If you get past the nausea on the train scene, you'll love it like I do.

So sad. Of course there's a US remake. I don't mean to be pessimistic but it's bound to be horrible. :| The Canadian likes all of the "Woman of No Consequence" roles in the cast :)

NO! NOT ANOTHER AMERICAN REMAKE OF A GOOD ASIAN SHOW!!!
Wasn't "The Departed" and "The Ring" bad enough?

Sigh ...

I'm more pissed off by the fact that I'm going to have to be one of those annoying wankers who says: "Oh you have to see the original, it's much better". They always annoy me so much :D

The trailer definitely didn't grab me. It seems very tepid :P

nothing beats the original. Why do they have to make hollywood versions?! *sigh* lol!

*Sigh* They just can't leave Asian movies alone, can they? Although the The Lake House *was* lovely although imho not as good as Il Mare. ;-)

I'm trying to figure it out. Is it the subtitles problem? They could dub. Do they not want to see Asian faces or is it just another way to make money?

I think it's partly a way to make money, and partly because a lot of people are subtitle resistant. To be fair, a lot of French films also get Hollywood remakes - although at least they get a big screen showing first! Plus the only Asian faces that will make $$$ in the US if they headline a film are Jackie Chan and Jet Li - Zhang Ziyi, Chow Yun Fat, Michelle Yeoh etc are on a tier below them since their films don't necessarily do good box office in the US. So saying "My Sassy Girl" stars Jin Jye-Hyun and opens at your local theatre today isn't going to win over Joe Public in the West, unfortunately!

I wish they could have dubbed Memoirs of A Geisha - it still would have been crap, but at least Zhang Ziyi's English would have been intelligible.

I was so depressed when I heard about the remake so many years ago, and now that it's actually on the verge of release... The trailer is so disappointing. I think Jesse Bradford might have some small chance of pulling off the role, but Elisha Cuthbert just comes off as annoying crazy rather than quirky and endearing crazy. My only hopes are that the film does well enough to warrant the original finally getting a US release on DVD.

But can you imagine how many annoying: "Oh is this a remake?" questions you're going to have to endure in the meanwhile! :D
