Thanks for posting this. I too loved the original Anne books, but only recall the 1st Sullivan miniseries which I did enjoy back in the late 80s? I guess our "kindred spirits" out there are willing to overlook Sullivan's creative license though I do share your pain. An "older and embittered" Anne with a traumatic childhood couldn't be further from Lucy Maud Montgomery's precocious little girl.

On a side note, do you know of any good fanfic? I'd love to read of Anne in her 30s - there's a gap in the books there!

Sullivan's Anne of Green Gables was very good and actually extremely faithful to the novel. For the sequel he deviated a little in terms of plotline but not too badly. For the third one he just made up his own story and it was ghastly.

I haven't had much luck finding good Anne fan fic. I tried Yuletide which is usually a pretty good source of well-written fan fic but there just isn't a lot of stuff out there. I have no idea why!

Oh my god :/
The man must be stopped. That story have nothing to do with the books.

I shudder to think of what he's going to come up with next. I love The Blue Castle and want it to be made into a movie but freak out as I wonder if Sullivan would do a good or a crap job with it.

I am at a Mrs Rachel Lynde-level of appalled! I knew about this beforehand and every time someone brings it up, I get annoyed yet again. Just ugh ugh UGH! I hate it when studios/film-makers appropriate well known titles and beloved characters just to skimp on marketing and lure in the established fanbase only to butcher the source into pieces. *coughdarkisrisingcough* Sullivan sounds like a bit of a opportunistic douche too. Wasn't there some court case where the descendants of Montgomery sued him for not paying the agreed upon 10% of all profits from the first two films because he ludicrously claimed that they didn't make any profit at all?

Actually the legal proceedings from the Montgomery family were apparently the cause of his decision to deviate from the Montgomery storylines. That being said, presumably he must still have to pay gobs of cash for use of the character names etc.

I hope he stops before he totally destroys appreciation of Anne. :P

Thing is, Sullivan did such a great job with the first two Anne movies. I remember being in school during those and we were all so excited because each one filmed over two nights and all the girls were talking about it and taping the episodes and just really happy with the way Anne was portrayed.

I just don't understand how he went from THAT to this crap :(

I was rather hoping this would fall apart prior to production but obviously we aren't that fortunate. I just can't understand it at all. Did Kevin Sullivan have a lobotomy? ARGH!

Only by accepting her past can Anne gather enough hope to face to future. Distant memories are the key to Anne embracing her life, and realising how remarkable it is.

Anne's remarkable life probably involves unicorns, no Gilbert, abusive parents, a successful career as a stripper, and Nazis. It would not surprise me!
