Same old sh*t, different depth!

Niki hadn't been out for a run for two days, which always made her decidedly edgy. That evening as she'd jogged up the firestairs to her bedsit she decided she had to go for a run, and after fixing herself a light snack and filling her drink pack she slipped her baby Glock into place in the pack and checked it. A light sleeveless sweat top was ( Read more... )

The four vampires strolled through the park, searching for some good eats. Their clan was hungry and hunting in the park at night usually netted them some tasty humans. Although, a lot of them were not the finest specimens an their blood tasted more like alcohol than anything else.

Thus, when an attractive, atheletic woman jogged along one of the paths in view, their attention was instantly riveted upon her.

"We'll take the upper path," Julia said, indicating herself and her mate, Vern. "You two cut her off at the lower end of the park."

Theodore and Raina took off at an easy trot, which outpaced the poor human quickly. Meanwhile, Julia led Vern along the upper path, before cutting down to the path directly beside the woman.

"Good evening, darling," Julia purred. "Mind if we join you?"

Niki felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand up, not breaking her stride but glancing over her shoulder to see who it was. She was running smoothly, not quite pushing herself yet, too distracted with her thoughts on the gym to have started working hard yet.

"Free park," she returned, edging across a little.

"Yes, and it makes us feel safer to have someone so trust-worthy looking to share it with," Julia said. "Of course, you might not find us the same." She smiled and her face changed, teeth turning razor-sharp, like a shark. "We're kinda hungry, doll. Aren't we, Vern?"

He laughed as he sprouted his own set of perfect fangs and lunged at her from behind. Julia made a similar leap for her left shoulder.

Before she had a chance to even think what they were meaning Niki saw the start of the lunge from one and bent double, crouching, stopping dead in her tracks and feeling them both pass. She reached behind and pulled the gun from it's position in the small of her back, as she turned on her heel and started in the other direction.

Sam shook the newspaper in front of him. Even in the darkness, with only the harsh glare of streetlights to penetrate the gloom, Sam was shaking the paper and trying to make his point to Dean, knowing full well that Dean couldn't see the newsprint. That was all right; he'd seen it.

"Look, I'm telling you, Dean. I know what I saw, I know what I heard, and this," he rattled the paper again, "isn't it. I know they have to sanitize and whitewash what happened that night, but this account isn't anywhere near accurate. It's a complete fabrication. 'Teenagers with spraypaint', 'graffiti everywhere'." He lowered his voice, looking around. "It wasn't spraypainted graffiti, Dean. It was charred vamps. I don't think any friends they had would be too happy right now."

"I'm perfectly thrilled if they turn out to be vamps, Sammy. But spraypaint turns into charred vamps? That's kind of a stretch even for you." Dean fingered a long, curved blade. "But Hell, we have nothing better to do tonight."

"That's exactly my point. I know the papers can't say that a bunch of vamps got fried, and hell, they probably don't even know what that stuff really was. But trying to pass it off as spraypaint?" He shook his head. "This city isn't ready for a bunch of pissed off vampires." That was exactly what Sam was afraid of - that all they'd managed to do, with his help, was make the others angry.

His eyes narrowed and his head whipped around when he heard the gunshot. "On the other hand, maybe we do have something better to do."

"What, breaking up a common mugging?" Dean asked, but he was already heading for the sound, tucking his sword into his coat for safe keeping. "Come on, Sammy, let's show the common criminal a few new tricks."

As they reached the street, he noted a two people running ahead of them. Their faces were horrible, teeth long and pointed.

"Well, score one for the little brother." He sped up, trying to catch up with the fast moving creatures. "I wonder where they're off to in such a hurry."

"I shall rip out your throat and bathe in your blood."

He heard the vampire's words, and for an instant they made his blood run cold. Focus, Sam. Dean can take care of himself. It wouldn't do for him to get distracted when he had some vamps of his own to take care of. His knife was in his hand as he circled around, angling for the best position to strike from.

Realizing there was another human behind them, Theo and Raina whirled to face him.

"I shall take this one," Raina hissed. "Go help Julia with the other." She smiled sweetly at the new man, taking his stock. "You shall provide a lot of food for us. Or perhaps, we shall turn you, so Julia can have someone new."

She darted around him, wary of the knife, and looked for an opening.

"I don't think so. I have other plans for this evening, and they don't include dinner, or a date." He didn't bother smiling, instead intent on finding an opening. He envied Dean's quick disposal of the first vampire, then remembered to call a warning over his shoulder to him, never taking his eyes off the female. "Dean! You got another one coming!"

"What, on the first date?" Dean asked, raising his eyebrow in feigned shock. The eyebrow stayed up in real shock when the woman on the ground suddenly knocked the female vamp over. "Nice move," he said with a leer. But he wasted no time in hacking the fallen creature's head off.

And then he grunted as another vampire hit him from the side and knocked the sword away and him to the ground.
