RP for Nikita, Jennifer Welles and diamondwhore

Sep 15, 2007 06:24

Roger wipes his hands off on a rag, then goes to the kitchen where his phone is currently recharging. He calls Nikita's number, getting her voice mail. He tells her John's realtor has found a property and wants them to take a look at it. The realtor might also not be there, which makes him a little leery simply because he doesn't want to be ( Read more... )

Niki had been checking over some equipment and listening to the banter of the salesman who'd offered to spot her while she tried some of it out. Feeling like a work out she agreed and had been leg pressing a weight that had the salesman's eyes bulging a little when the phone had buzzed away in her bag. It was a little while later that she managed to get to it and heard Roger's message. She punched the required numbers to callback and hummed to herself as she towelled her face and waited for his phone to answer, or go to voicemail.

Roger is about to go up the stairs when the phone vibrates in his pocket. He fishes it out. "Hello?"

"Excellent! She wanted us to go see the property, but she said she wasn't going to be there. She gave me the address if you'd rather go now."

Satine had indeed come home, more than a little flustered she heads straight up the stairs, stopping only when she hears him call to her. "Roger, I...I'll be down in a moment. I need to change quickly."

"Do you need any help?" He knows she can't see him leering, but he's sure she'll hear it in his voice.

Roger answers the phone. She can hear him slowly coming up the stairs as he's talking to Nikita. When he shuts off the phone, he comes up quickly. "I always want to help."

It's closer to an hour and a half before Niki arrives at Roger and Satine's address, paying the cabbie off before heading to the front door. She remembered what Roger said about knocking loudly so braced her knuckles and gave the door a good rap.

Nikita finds herself at a brownstone end unit with a wall surrounding it. The gate unlocks as she approaches. The small front yard is mainly bricked over with various plant holders full of topiaried bushes and flower beds. There is a one car garage which is closed at the moment. The house itself is weathered brick and obviously not new. The neighborhood is very obviously upscale and fairly quiet ( ... )

"Uh, yes, that'd be great," she replied, taking in the room with a quick raking sweep, then returning to look at the individual pieces that drew one's attention. "Ended up trying out some of the equipment they were demonstrating for me," she added, bag stil over her shoulder as she wandered across to the mantel and looked at the pictures.

"Was it good? I will warn you, I'm a little tough on equipment. You might not want me to use it if it isn't re-enforced." Roger heads back to the kitchen. "Alcoholic or non-alcoholic?"

"Mmm, especially if it means there's a good public transport system avilable," she murmured, slipping her hand into his arm as she looks around the vicinity. "What floor did Ms Welles say it was on?" Niki asked, starting to go through the list of things in her head she wanted to check out.

"The 4th. It's the top floor, I think. Maybe there's 5, but the place is on the 4th floor."

Niki nodded, thinking to herself about the security and access and egress points as they walked the length of the next block. The area they were walking through had a variety of ages of buildings, and she wondered about the one they were heading for, and whether it was going to be too new to have wooden floors. "Not that it matters," she told Roger after explaining what she was thinking out loud. "I'll probably have to get them relaid anyway, just for the spring in them. Helps prevent a lot of injuries in training."

"I've never formally trained, per se, except in the Military Police. And there they had the floors covered in mats so if you fell there was a cushion."

Oh, the joys of phone-tag. Or comm-tag, depending on where and when you were. In this case, John had been in the middle of a 'training session' - ie, getting his ass handed to him by Zylyn - and hadn't made it to his phone before it went to voicemail.

After that the message had been relayed to 'Rush, who was fortunately already out and about. She wasn't really set up for playing 'Jennifer Welles', but from what John had told her the persona wasn't needed.

Right now, she was getting out of a cab on 49th, outside number 1059.

While Roger turned to deal with the call, Nikita started to study the building, looking out into the street, figuring out entrance and egress routes - something she hated doing but couldn't stop, knowing it might be necessary one day.

On this floor, the ways in and out were fairly simple - the main door, a delivery entrance and a small door for staff at the back; 'Jennifer' and her secretary vetted the place very thoroughly for just that sort of thing. The elevator was tucked into one corner, the stairwell set alongside.

The overall look is of older-fashioned timber and tiles, and might once have been quite opulent. Now, though, the place has the kind of ... lonely aura of a building once accustomed to people and life that's now wondering where everybody's gone.

Outside, 'Rush skipped up the front stairs, pausing a second as she caught sight of two people in the foyer. She only had to take one look at them - especially Roger - to see that they match the description from Z and John. Seeing as the man seemed to be busy with the phone at his ear, she first greeted the woman, keeping her voice a little low so as not to interrupt his call;

"Hi, there!"

"Hi," Niki replied, glancing at Roger and stepping over toward the woman. "Would you be looking for Roger? Roger Smith?" she asked, eyeing the woman swiftly, but not openly, thinking she didn't look like the usual New York realtor type Niki had gotten used to in the last few weeks.
