Love for LiveURLs

Apr 24, 2006 21:50

LiveURLs opened to a very, very lukewarm response last week.  We got a lot of good feedback.  toufeeq has summarized the feedback.  As he mentions, the biggest lesson we learnt from the release was that, a product is as effective as its marketing.  But first things first, we need a name for the project to strike a chord with the users.  LiveURLs just does ( Read more... )

I would discourage using names like snippet, snip'it, etc. as they do not correspond to `the *whole* page, pointing to specific section(s) in it`. Let it also be the name (noun) for this new kind of url, that has the fragment in it. But let not the user wonder about what a "fragment" is. Let alone technical jargon ...

What about "urlhere"?

That was a good suggestion. We'll keep it in mind. Updated the post with some more similar names. The word 'here' is nice. And the idea of making it a noun also makes sense.

Seriously. You should actually see Rajesh coming up with stuff like this. Awesome he is. Another gem of his was to refer to Toufeeq Hussain and me as TH&NKS. It looks like thanks :) He is our college department senior by 11 years and knows Uma Maheshwari ma'am et. al very well.

Let me suggest couple of names :)

* shareurl/sharelink
* oururl/ourlink
* openurl/openlink
* connecturl

The concept of sharing the url is more receptive. The extension let users to share the portion of url. Hope it helps.

LiveUrl creates a url associated to the selected content and lets the user to share the url. The receiver can access the url, thus the selected portion/content is highlighted.

Zilla-Urls toufeeq April 26 2006, 06:31:43 UTC
I'm still in favour of zillaurls.

Zilla : 'zila' a small territory, word is common to most indian laguages. In our case it's misspelled and is to be pronounced with the local tamil slang, 'jilla'.It will also reflect the Mo-"zilla" part, getting us in favour with the Mozilla community.

Friended you.

Interesting idea/project this.

I'm bad with name suggestions. To give an example, we have a band in our college, and we've been performing at shows for the past 2 years, and we still dont have a name for our band!

With that disclaimer, I could think of the following names:
- clipit
- cliplink
- sublink
- subaddress
- subURL

Friended you.
Me too.

Thanks for the suggestions :) Added them to the list. We should be finalizing on the names by this weekend. 'sub' and 'clip' are nice words to ponder upon.
