She woke up in his arms. God, she'd almost forgotten how good that felt. A chill still ran down her spine as she came fully to her senses, still expecting to see Jonathan Crane seated in the room. He was a shadow she'd never be free from... and now he was haunting her daughter as well.

Despite all the things weighing on his mind, Harvey had slept solidly the night before. He was just waking up when he heard movement in the room.

"Nadine--" He blinked, reaching for the spot next to him where she'd been sleeping before. It was empty. For a brief moment, panic overcame him. Then he glanced up, eyes a little wild and saw her. She hadn't left, Crane hadn't done anything to her--she was here. Much as she was afraid that he would leave, Nadine had no idea how much Harvey needed her presence.

Nadine watched him for a moment, surprised by the reaction. Tears welled in her eyes. She hated seeing him like that, but a part of her felt a kind of relief. He... wasn't just here because he'd felt... somehow obligated to come back. He did care, did want to have her.

"I... needed to get cleaned up," she murmured, apologetic. She felt a little better with fresh clothes, especially since the blouse's collar helped hide the new and old bruises on her neck. "Didn't do much good, though. Still look like hell."

"You look just fine," he said, sitting up. "I should probably shower...get ready for the day." He ran his fingers through his hair. "Get ready to figure out...where we go from here." He paused. "I have--a bit of money--I'd been meaning to tell you--before I left for Metropolis that day--that I put some money aside, in case something happened. You and Duela would've been okay for a little while. I didn't tell anyone--so--it was still there."

Nadine walked over to the bed and sat down, shifting up against him. Her head settled on his shoulder as she drew in a deep breath. Every time she held onto him now, curled up beside him, she couldn't believe it. She... really had him back. "I haven't checked my account. Hopefully she thought to use it... and the cash." Some of the clients of Nadine's private law practice-- one Oswald Cobblepot in particular-- had preferred to pay in large amounts of cash, which Nadine kept stored under the bed. After all, even if she could prove it was from a legitimate business transaction... depositing a suitcase full of cash would raise questions. "I know she knew my pin, at least."
