So many times things I read here that are personal get me to thinking about myself and my life and my reactions to things. Someone intimated to me once that doing so was self-centered, but I can hardly see how it is. I'm not lessening someone else's feelings, just exploring mine because of their situation.

It is when things are at the worst that people show their true feelings. I hope you can grow closer to your family. All my relatives are dead except for my one brother who is much older than I am. Being alone at the head of the train is no fun.
Maybe there is time to turn things around. It may be up to you as you are the sister and women historically make the effort in relationships. We keep the family fires lit.

I was very close to one aunt growing up and all of my cousins, but ever since g-ma & g-pa died the 4 siblings of my mom all got snooty over material stuff I have to sneak to see my aunt, or my mom gets her feelings hurt, it's just plain ridiculous!
I do text and call my brothers, but Im the oldest and more and more find myself planning holidays etc.

Jim isn't close with his brothers and sisters. I doubt, once his mom and mine dies, we'll even ever go back to visit.

Not seeing family could be a good thing. The only thing you could do is give it a try, and be ready to pull back if needed. I tried to be friends with certain family members and it turned out to be more trouble than it's worth. Then I have others that I'm very close with. I pretty much try and be social with everyone and then pick and choose my favorites that I really feel comfortable being close with.
