Elann's Peruvian Sierra Aran (7.5)

I just got my shipment of this yarn last night, and immediately commenced to knittin'.

The Good Lovely, lovely yarn. Nice sheen, easy to knit with, and the color is gorgeous, though not what I expected. It's very touchable and warm, and lends itself to cables very well. Fairly soft, too--I've heard that ( Read more... )

I'm guessing that once knitpicks realizes what a good thing they've got with andean silk, they'll get more colors.

A note on controlling the alpaca shedding: I knit a cabled beanie in Sierra Aran and it turned out too long, so I machine-dried it while it was still damp from blocking. The hat shrank vertically, as I had wanted, but as an added bonus, all the surface alpaca hairs felted down into the fabric! This might be worth looking into for small accessories, but I would hesitate to do anything to a whole sweater unless I had calculated the shrinkage rate beforehand and deliberately knit it longer.
