A/N: For P100 prompt 694: Guilty. Part 29 of my Ice Age drabble series and follows on from Running On Empty.

The air grew thick with choking ash, the visibility fading until I could hardly see where I was running, staggering really, as I attempted to escape the apocalypse occurring behind me. I stumbled again, almost falling before someone caught my arm, keeping me standing before dragging me forwards.

“Come on, James.”

“I could accuse you of having a guilty conscience, except I don’t believe you have one.”

“You wound me, James, I’m still human.”

“Maybe.”

“And after I’ve rescued you for the third time.”

“Third?”

“The hospital.”

“Only because you need me for something.”

“True. Now, keep up this time.”
