Emily almost laughed when she caught up with Finn; the young soldier was surrounded by young women. Young women, Emily was surprised to discover, who spoke with upper class accents, were rather drunk and had wandering hands from the way Finn jumped.
She cast her mind back to when she'd been their age, the first signs of spring had heralded her débutante season. She'd waited to be presented to Queen Victoria before spending all of spring at a variety of social events. Unlike these girls, she'd been under the watchful eye of her mother to ensure she hadn't acted disgracefully.
