James wasn't happy about Helen touching Jon, and this seemed an opportune moment to distract her and gain an answer to a question that had bothered him. “How did you end up in the camp?”
“Oh...” Helen tilted her head. “As we're now allies...” She smiled and patted Jon's knee. “The rich and powerful still exist, James. If they're selected for the camps, it is easy enough for them to find someone poor and desperate enough to take their place.”
James quirked an eyebrow. “That doesn't explain your presence.”
Helen shrugged. “It seemed the easiest way to talk to you.”
