RIP Grassbaugh

Apr 10, 2007 00:12

Just now I was catching up on some e-mails from today. I hit Check mail expecting only to see the copies of the messages I'd just sent. There was one from an address that I didn't recognize. The subject told me everything I needed to know: "In Memory of Jonathan Grassbaugh".

The text of the e-mail was as follows: )

military, iraq, sad, hopkins, barnstormers, death, lost, government

I know it sounds cliche, but it always helps me to hear it anyway

I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sorry that there's nothing else that I can say.

This sucks, and I'm so sorry. Fuck.

Incidentally, he grew up one town over from where I grew up.

And you are right, it's unacceptable. All of it.

I'm sorry that this hit so close to home for you.

My parents are of the Vietnam-era (my dad was arrested for protesting the war) and I think they often wonder why there's not more outrage among young people these days (with respect to the war in Iraq and, from my mother's perspective, with respect to women's rights).

The truth is that, like you, I don't know what to do, but maybe it's time more of us started doing something

Hang in there.
