Defending Female Geek Rights

GIRLS CAN LIKE STAR WARS, TOO.

And not just for, like, squishy, happy romantic fanfic, either.

I like the blowing-stuff-up-ness, and the lightsabers, and Boba Fett. I've read the EU almost start to finish from ANH on (and I'm even beginning to be tempted by prequel-era stuff). I know a great deal about the GFFA, thank you very much.

Last night, I  ( Read more... )

Stupid fanboy. *grumps* I went off on my your SW knowledge of the EU, letting people know exactly who was dead, alive, and who had killed whom. People were quite impressed. Thank you. :-)

My mother would NOT be proud of this. :)

I'm going straight from work to rehearsal. You available tomorrow night at all?

though, really? Isn't that like the easiest bit of trivia to know ever?

Yeah, even I know that, and I have barely any Star Wars knowledge past the movies.

Methinks that boy definitely needs his mind expanded a good deal.

edit - bah, stupid lack of block quotes in comments!

I think so, too. He was even less knowledgeable about general fandom things, like 'Han Shot First!' and Pink 5. Really. Most people know about one of those two things, if not both.

So, yah, I feel you on the girls can be geeky SW buffs too WITHOUT the whole heinousness and all that poo. I will totally skip parts of the movies JUST to get to the action bits sometimes, I mean, come on those are the best parts! And while I'm not that familiar with EU, I mean, come on, he didn't know the general fandom stuff like 'Han Shot First'? :P

Being a 'gamerchic' I get it doubly, because heaven forbid that 1. a girl can game as well as a guy in anything other than casual games 2. a girl can game and not be heinous and 3. a girl can game and be an adult too. BAH! Sterotypes.

I sport my star wars-ness even at work:
http://pics.livejournal.com/ravynnightstorm/pic/0000dgbz/g10 I'm proud to say that pic (hope the link works) is one of my cabnets at work [note the disney/sw pins at the bottom too..haha]

You go girl for showing that girls can rock at the geekness too!

Excellent cabinet! You are two levels of geeky awesomeness ahead of me. :D I can totally see how being an adult gamer chick could be hard ... that DOES make it doubly hard for you.

*swallows a badly generic "that's what she said" joke in embarrassment*

LMAO @ the 'she said' joke! I'll join you in the joke embarrassment, because I am always making the he/she said jokes and have quite literally found myself beet-red in front of my boss, of all people, when one slipped out during lunch in the office -- *ahem* *grin ( ... )
