I wish to offer my congratulations to Barack Obama and his supporters. His election as the 44th president of the United States will hopefully be the final healing this nation needs to get us past the racial divide that has plagued us for far too long. If you've read any of my political rants, you know that I am not quite of the majority amongst my LJ friends. Most of them are laughing and crying and jumping up and down and generally carrying on as if Messiah has come.
Me? I just think the better politician--which in this case means not just the better ideas but also the better campaign--got elected. And I do have some high hopes for him, because, hey, he's more or less asked us to have high hopes for him.
I'm proud to live in a country that can do what it just did. But there's a lot of work ahead, and unfortunately, all too many opportunities to screw it up.

I'm really concerned for some of my friends who are rabid Obama supporters. If he doesn't walk on water for them I'm afraid they'll be shattered. I'll be happy if he wades. I just don't want him to get in over his head. When that happens to a president it pulls all of us down with him.
