I'm beginning to wonder if i didn't title my fic what I did because my house is literally full of dust. I have just spent the better part of four hours cleaning TWO small bookcases in my kitchen. Two. Pulling everything off of them, scrubbing off the thick layer of grease/dust/pet hair that always seems to build up in kitchens, and which you don't

My oldest daughter just moved out and I had to help pack up her stuff. In the move I found the same kind of things. I mean how she even got a broken doorbell in her room is beyond me but there it was in a pile of other junk covered in dust in a bowl that was covered in dust.

I think I would be thrilled to find a broken doorbell in my bedroom--that way I know that no one can ring it. :)

Unless I have a functioning doorbell and the broken one came from a different house... there might be a story in there.

Dust is insidious. It gets into EVERYTHING. It's worse when you have three cats and a dog, and everyone in your house has long hair (even the boys). It's like living in a dust factory.

Two cats, two dogs, two daughters, even had a hamster for awhile. Dirt, dust, hair you name it I got it.

I actually have no idea where the door bell came from. It's not from our house.

ha ha ha - sounds like you live exactly like I do. We have an official "messy" drawer but truth is that we also have a messy bowl, a messy compartment in an old desk, strange things hiding behind books, things piling up on every shelf, LOTS of pets hair evvvverywhere, children's plastic gadgets, old keys that belong to what?, weird looking tiny metal thingys that seem like they should probably be part of something important around here but apparently aren't as things seem to work despite of them not being at the right place, etc, etc. But that's the beauty of moving. You get to clean up and out and throw tons and tons of junk out, leaving much more space for accumulating just as much junk at the new place ;-) By the way, I know where the junk comes from - it's the tiny pixies that left it there without you ever noticing. Same ones who steal the socks so none ever match and who place the glasses and car keys in completey unthought of places.

My pixies are not tiny. They range from over 6 feet tall and argumentative about why they are putting junk somewhere and it CANNOT BE MOVED, to small furry ones that like to take little objects and bat them underneath furniture and appliances.

Right now my cats are looking at my gleaming and spotless kitchen with horror, like "WHY HAVE YOU DESTROYED ALL THE GOOD THINGS EVER?"

The dog is just really confused about why the cats are upset.

The boys are not home, and I'm sure there will be a similar reaction from them as I got from the cats.

Pixies at 6 ft are pretty scary and extremely effective when it comes to compiling junk for sure!

Dogs aren't all that clever, are they? We have 2 dogs and a cat (and a couple of bearded dragons thanks to my eldest child). The cat is smart, tends to kill all the pretty colored birds, never once stooping so low as to eat a common sparrow and she figures out stuff all the time. The dogs, however, don't even know how to walk through an door if it's ajar in stead of wide open. They will only need to push the door juuuust so, but they just can't figure it out and sit and whine.

Boys will be boys - sometimes I am surprised at how little they notice or pay attention to when it comes to the home they live in. :-)

Oh my God, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who starts cleaning and goes, "WTF, why I do have this??" I swear kitchens magically produces screws. They don't go to anything - they NEVER go to anything - but there they are, lurking in the bottom of old jelly jars and the edges of drawers.

*high five on massive cleaning event, btw*

I did find ONE screw and when I looked at it, I knew what it went to. Now my fourth dining room chair has the seat properly attached once more.

There were several other screws, however, that appeared to go to nothing that was ever in my house.

There's also this massive collection of keys which don't appear to go to anything. Husband and I will be having words about this collection, and if it is true that they go to nothing, some will get repurposed for craft projects.

I always have a similar WTF? reaction whenever I clean. It seems no matter how much I dust, the house is always dusty and I'm forever finding things that, at one point, I just HAD to keep. Of course, years later I wonder what type of insanity led to those thoughts.

My next project tonight will be cleaning my studio/office/craft room... all the insanity is in this room. All of it.

I'm not sure whether I'm looking forward to it, or dreading it.
