Hi! I'm a new friend, found you through DUST. I love knowing anything and everything about my fandom friends, so if you feel like sharing personal stuff,
When I'm not writing awesome fic, I'm writing terrible fic. Horrible. Absolutely wretched dreck that no one would ever want to read. Except then I do, and my betas do, and eventually it becomes awesome fic. :)
Actually... When I'm not writing, I'm usually doing something else creative. My job is artistic--drawing mostly, but I also do some graphic design (hence my love of banner making). But I also act at my local community theater, as well as volunteer a great deal of time there doing things like set design, stage managing, scenic painting, etc. Acting is my first love, however, and I'd like to think that a lot of my training as an actor helps make me a better writer. Certainly all those classes I took on character study certainly help!
When/how did you fall in love with Spuffy? When is tricky. I suppose I probably fell in love with Spike way back when Season 2 first aired. I loved him. I'd been watching the show for a while, but he (and Dru!) were the first characters that I really deep
( ... )
I would say that it is *primarily* Jareth/Sarah... being the only two actual humans in the story, and it being somewhat canonical, does make it hard to get away from that pairing. That said, however, there is also some gen mixed in, and of the Jareth/Sarah fics there's a WIDE variety of flavors.
There are the romantic fics, obviously. And quite a few that are very dark and kinky and disturbing (when you're pairing your heroine against her main, slightly amoral antagonist, and at least in the film she's under age while he's implied to be immortal... yeah, it can get disturbing). Generally I avoid those, however. And there are comedies, because where there is goblins there should also be Funny Things, and it is based on a Henson movie after all and full of much silliness.
There are also some AMAZING fic writers in that particular fandom, no matter which flavor you like. And if you'd ever like to start reading in it, let me know which flavor suits you best and I'll shoot you a few recs (aside from my own fics, that is ;D).
Do you listen to specific genres of music when writing fanfics? Or just put your library on random/or not at all?
I actually make a playlist for every fic I write. Most of it tends to be rock/alternative with some punk mixed in, because that's how I roll in general. But I do pick specific songs that suit the fic that I'm writing.
However, I don't listen to it WHILE writing. I usually put my playlist on while I'm working or cleaning or doing something that's not writing. It gets my brain full of juicy ideas, so that when I sit down to write I've got inspiration to spare.
When I write, though, it has to be really quiet. If there's music playing, or too many people talking around me, I have a hard time concentrating. That's when I whip out my secret weapon: http://simplynoise.com I've found that I write better when I'm listening to white noise than anything else. It lets me hear the voices in my head clearer.
Also, favorite book? or series, or author...My favorite book is
( ... )
"Sunshine" is my favorite vampire novel ever! I remember getting really really angry when I heard HBO optioned the Sookie Stackhouse novels for a show instead of "Sunshine," because so much can be done with the worldbuilding in "Sunshine."
I know! I'm not sure McKinley would approve of her books being adapted for an ongoing TV show. She's very protective of her characters (hence the reason she doesn't allow fanfic). I know they had talked to her about optioning one of her novels for a movie once, and one of the first things they suggested during the meeting was to turn her female heroine into a male character... and she refused on the spot.
I'm not a fan of the Sookie Stackhouse books. I read the first one, and it was interesting, but when I realized that it was another (though slightly less smutty) version of the Anita Blake novels (heroine sleeps with everything of the supernatural persuasion that she can get her mits on), I lost interest.
I am trying to be a runner. I started the Couch to 5K program, and I'm currently repeating Week 1, because I couldn't manage it the first week. So it's something like, five minute warm up, and then 90 seconds of jogging, followed by two minutes of walking, then another 90 seconds jogging, and so on. For about thirty minutes. As you continue with the program it gradually lengthens the amount of time you run.
My calf muscles are protesting this treatment mightly. My husband likes to jog, and he's been going with me even though I'm slow and out of shape and he doesn't even work up a sweat. He's very encouraging.
I used to think running was something you only did if something big and scary was chasing you. Now I know that I have to practice so that when the big scary thing is chasing me, I can actually outrun it and not fall over from dead after a two minute sprint.:D
No way! I'm doing the exact same thing. I did CT5K before winter but stopped running when it got cold and now I am stating up again, well as soon as my toe is healed enough to run on (hopefully this weekend fingers crossed).
Here is the link for the program if you need to look over the workouts again. :)
Haha! Yeah you have to practice running to be in shape for it. BUT, you only have to out run one person to get away from the big scary thing chasing you :P
Hoo boy, sounds like you're already doing better than I would if I started up that program! Hope your calves feel better soon! If you lived closer, I'd offer to give you a massage -- and I mean that in a totally legitimate Massage Therapist kind of way ('cause that's what I do) and not a weird, stalkery, internet kind of way.
I like my ability to do many things well. I am very much a Jack (hah!) of all trades. When it comes to making things or doing things I'm sort of... I guess an artistic version of a Slayer. I just pick things up very quickly and am able to do them well straight off the bat. (Unless it involves math or music or athletic things).
What I like least about myself? I have no ambition and am a little unfocused when it comes to picking one thing to stick to. I'm a good writer, I guess... but have no ambition to be a published author. I'm a good actress... but could care less about fame or getting on TV or in films. I'm a good artist... but I'm never going to be famous for it and struggle to make a living with it because I don't put myself out there. My energies get split between all the things I enjoy doing to the point where I have no ONE thing I'm exceptionally good at, aside from spreading myself too thin.

For myself I'm a runner so my regime is pretty much just running.
