[Video] First summoning- the arrival of Mr. Mandrake

Aug 24, 2011 08:50

[The video switches on to show a nice looking young man- in his late teens, it looks like, though the bags under his eyes seemed out of place for someone so young. His hair is black and short, his expression, his posture- everything curt and straightforward. Like a business transaction.]

Adstringendum.

[He holds up a few papers, as if showing ( Read more... )

[Chuckle.]

Anarchism, Monsieur. To a certain point.

[A pointed eyebrow raise.]

With all due respect sir, that's madness. The population here seems intelligent enough, from my studies.

Ah yes. Intelligent and self-sufficient. [Smile.] Very self-sufficient.

To the point of anarchy?

[He frowns.]

That's impossible. The idea of a perfect, ruler free land is nice, but ultimately illogical. People will always need guidance and protection, no matter what kind of civilization they may be.

It would be nice is such well-thought-out logic held here, but you will find it does not.

It can if it is enforced strongly enough.

Considering the powers that control this place see no need to bow to either logic or force, I think it will be far more difficult than you imagine.

If you're speaking of the Animus, then you're missing my point. I realize that they are a controlling force, but that is no excuse to prevent us from trying to act as more of a civilization and less of a- cluster of confused insects.

[Glances at his conversation with Jean Louis, briefly.]

Perhaps it would be more rewarding to focus on the government designs found in our various worlds of origin. As subjects in Adstringéndum, we are mere immigrants. The greatest strength we possess is the seed to development which we have brought with us.

[video] knew_anyway August 24 2011, 18:07:03 UTC
That is true- but would it not be more logical to use those seeds to develop a cohesive civilization of their own? It's nice that people uphold diverse values, but separated like this, we are vulnerable and weak.

I have nurtured similar hopes, of course - and certain, past events have indeed forced us to form alliances. It is when normalcy reestablishes itself that this important unity is too quickly forgotten.

Then it should be forgotten no longer. The next time something happens to cause us to band together, I'll monitor the results closely and try to learn from it.

*Hello John, have a white carapaced woman in gold rags on your screen.*

I am sorry, there is no permanent leader here.

A fact which can be remedied, with work.

Yes.

[A pause.]

And thank you- again. I appreciate your efforts to keep me that way.

And already back to work, it seems.

[Raven just looks away.] You're welcome. Again. [She's not fishing for thanks here.]

I need to know more about this place if I'm to adapt adequately.
