This has, in some respects, been a long time coming. For various reasons I had a falling out with my PC, and was in such a navel-gazing self-indulgent mopey mood that the last thing I wanted to do was share it with the unwashed LJ masses.

if i may ask - how have you done your backups now? Mirrored Raid setup?

2x200GB external drives for each set (currently at 2). One to be held offsite.
1x75GB external drive as the "live backup".

Although my current motherboard has RAID it kept cocking it up so I stopped using it.

ah that sounds good. RAID is always screwing up on friends of mine...
