The last time Zod was at the Metropolis airport, it wasn't the most cheerful experience. But he can't think about that now. Not when he has business to conduct ( Read more... )

On one level, Diana thinks the airport is an amusingly appropriate place to meet. After all, she is flying in. Just not on a plane. On another level, it's crowded, making it only slightly trickier for her to arrive unnoticed. She does manage, however, with a gratuitous use of speed.

When she exits, the Major may find it not difficult to spot her at all; Diana definitely sticks out of the crowd, not only due to her height - for a woman, anyway - but simply her appearance. Such is the burden of being gifted by Aphrodite herself.

Diana appears to be looking more over people's heads as she walks slowly out of the building and at nothing in particular. Then, suddenly, she turns to look directly at him, a brief flash of confusion crossing her features. She shakes it off quickly and starts toward him.

"Major Zod, yes?"

Zod does notice her right away, and his eyes follow her with curiosity from the moment she exits the airport. He's slightly taken aback by her appearance, though only for a passing moment, and when she looks at him, he takes a step toward her and gives her a quick nod.

"Yes. And you must be Diana," he says, extending his hand.

"I am." Diana hesitates for a moment, glancing from his hand to his face and back again, that same look of uncertainty returning. Perhaps it's merely her youth showing through, as she does seem to be several years younger than Zod himself. Or perhaps it's something else.

It lasts only as long as before and then she shakes his hand firmly. "I am pleased to met you."

Brief as it may be, Zod notices the hesitation. And although he doesn't understand it, he thinks it best to ignore it for the time being.

After a moment, he releases her hand and gives her a polite smile. "I am pleased to meet you as well. And I'm eager to hear your perspective on what seems to be our common goal."

His first comment will garner a brief smile. Understanding is important and she's glad they still seem to be on the same page.

"It is only fair that I answer some of your questions as well," Diana nods. "My duty is much the same as yours, it appears. I wish to unite my people as one, to help them understand that we all need to work together to help this planet and mend the rifts between ourselves. That without harmony, we are not truly living, merely surviving and we deserve so much more than that."

He gives her an approving glance. "Yes. I think both our peoples deserve so much more than that." After a short pause, he adds, "How have you been going about your quest? Or are you still searching for a way?"

"Every living creature does."

She sighs softly, glancing out her own window. "I was raised in a very isolated environment. This world is still so new to me." There's a wistful tone in her voice Zod may just recognize; Diana is rather homesick.

"But that is why I am here and have been for some time now. To live, to learn. And then when I am ready, I am to make contact with the leaders of these lands, to offer my help and support and to gain theirs in return so together we may make any transitions necessary as easy as possible."

He nods in understanding. "I can relate," he says softly in response to her first statement.

After her second, he remains silent for a moment, gazing at her thoughtfully. "I fear this world is running out of time rather fast. And I believe action must be taken sooner rather than later."

She stills briefly, her gaze still fixed on him though her own eyes grow more serious.

Softly, "What sort of abilities?"

He meets her gaze thoughtfully for a moment before answering. "Powers of sorts. Strength, beyond that of humans." He pauses and tilts his head to one side slightly. "Have you heard speak of such things before?"

"Yes." It's honest enough, for now. "You do not have these abilities now?"

"No," he says quietly. "But I will get them soon enough."

It dawns on her that was probably something she shouldn't have said. But she did, so Diana will simply have the grace to look mildly sheepish about it and continue on.

"I suppose it would be for most. For me, it seems barely the blink of an eye since I was in Athens after leaving home."

"I see," he says again, studying her face for a moment. She seems fairly young to him, but it's highly possible that he merely doesn't understand the way in which humans measure time. "You've spent most of your life away from your home, then?"

If Zod remembers correctly, twenty years is considered a large portion of one's existence, though he may be mistaken.

"No," she answers softly, honestly, and then adds in an apologetic tone, "I have never had to explain this before."

Diana takes a deep breath and then tries. "When I said my tribe had lived on our island for thousands of years, I meant... us. It is one of the provisions of doing our duty. We are very long lived." She half shrugs. "That is why we have no men. We do not need any."

"Ah," he says with a nod, "that explains why twenty years would seem such a short time to you."

He glances at her with mild surprise and perhaps a bit of amusement. "You are truly thousands of years old?"

The question appears to momentarily confuse her. "Very little, actually. I know it is harnessing the sun's energy into a power source but I do not know the mechanics behind it."

He gives her a very small smile before replying. "You don't need to understand the mechanics," he assures her.

Then, after a long pause, he continues. "We're building a solar tower. The abilities lying dormant within me can only be activated using the power of the sun. So rather than supplying power to some form of technology, it will be supplying power to me."

He decides to leave out the part about turning the sun red. At least for now.

Diana laughs softly, mostly to herself. "So you are building a temple." She realizes that isn't what he means, but it's close enough.

"A temple?" he asks, giving her a questioning glance. "How so?"
