David Bowie's son, Duncan Jones, has added another interesting robot to the gallery of movie classics that includes Robby, HAL, and R2D2 in a new film called "Moon" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1182345/). GERTY is voiced by Kevin Spacey, and owes a lot to his predecessors, especially the pint-sized drones in "Silent Running".
The story is derivative (or maybe it's a conscious homage to Phillip K. Dick, who knows?), but the odd relationship between Sam, the lone worker at an H3 mining operation on the dark side of the moon, and his solicitous companion GERTY (who flashes little emoticons on a tiny screen to indicate an approximation of mood) keeps the film interesting long after you've figured out what's going on. Check it out.
