That was actually my main complaint about "The Long Descent" too - the last part, which for me was the part with the most to offer, was just too thin. I wanted more. But I suppose if that's the least of the complaints....

This isn't a phenomenon of writing limited to JMG, though; I've seen it in far too many recent books (more so in fiction). I've started chalking it up to deadlines and the push to get material out for the paycheck, I'd bet sometimes not even so much being driven by/for the author as by the publisher.

Of course, my thesis was the same way: the bulk was exposition of the grounding research for the concluding idea. But it was a thesis, not a book, and therefore doesn't count.
