Patience is not my virtue

In furtherance of my current Max Gladstone obsession, I'm reading "Bookburners" on Serial Box.  It's an interesting concept - they're doing old-fashioned serial stories.  Each story is self-contained, inside of an overall story arc - much like any police procedural television series.  There are four authors collaborating, and all the writing is ( Read more... )

house, books, living room

You're a better person than I. As I recall, during MY first layoff, I sulked a lot.

Oh believe me, I found lots of time for sulking. I started those projects several months into the layoff when I got tired of sulking!

You're obviously not someone who reads manga. You can only get it weekly even if you read it online, and I read dozens of mangas (somewhere around a hundred of them, I think) so I'm pretty used to having to wait and wait and waaaaaaaait for the next development in a story. Some mangas are VERY slow and the original author is actually only producing one chapter a month or even every half year (ugh, one of my favourites, slowest output EVER.) so getting to read something every week is actually really fast and frequent.

Actually I don't think any of my mangas are once-a-weekers, any more. All longer. -___-

Oh, and now that I notice it...I didn't know you were unemployed. I went back and looked to see what I missed, but I don't think I did.

Bleck, mudding...SO MUCH DUST. I'm okay with the drywalling process on walls...but I sure hate it on ceilings.

I didn't mention it. It happened very recently, and I didn't feel like poking at it. I need to finish up the resume today and get it out there. I certainly have enough work around the house to keep me busy, but that doesn't feed the bank account!

OMG, the dust is terrible. I pulled molding off of an archway, and at least I found drywall underneath, but it needed a lot of repair. I've never done outside corners before, and they're a pain. I have a bathroom ceiling that needs tape and mud, and I've been assiduously avoiding working on it.

If you end up mudding a ceiling, you're going to *have* to wear a mask...or end up inhaling and/or swallowing an awful lot of the stuff. Plus getting it in your eyes...a whole face mask (or scuba gear, maybe) is practically a must. :/

I really like rounded drywall corners...but I don't think they could be made to work on an archway. I haven't seen the bendable kind in the rounded style. It'd probably be cool, though. :)

Yeah, time off work is great and useful...until you run out of money to do anything with. Sorry to hear you've been a victim of job instability...seems like a lot of jobs have been pretty unstable in the past few years. I hope a good one comes up for you. :)

Hey!
I am so sorry you were laid off. I'd been wondering when I saw the size of the layoff announcement. ((((HUGS))))

Soooo, if you are theoretically free-ish during the day, would you like to come visit me at my beautiful library and I'll treat you to a delicious lunch and we can catch up in person?

I am indeed free-ish (although I've been doing a lot of painting and drywall), and I would love to see your beautiful library! Plans should be made!
