Ah, I loved this episode! Shinou's little pep-talk is one of my favorite scenes...
I think you really hit the nail on the head re: the difference between Conrad's love and Wolfram's love. It balances out. It's all part of Yuuri growing up and becoming a bon-diggety king. Which is what it's all about, after all. (Well, that and the hokey-pokey.)
I've often wondered what would happen if Yuuri becomes a destructive force against Shin Makoku. I can see Conrad staying by Yuuri's side and remaining loyal to Yuuri (like Sasame in Pretear). Wolfram, on the other hand, I can see him opposing Yuuri every step of the way until Yuuri sees reason.
That's a very interesting way of looking at their relationship. Hohoo~! The episode radiated ~*~family~*~ to me. X'D And happydance for the multitude of characters involved!
Ulrike, look behind you! She does and... it's just Shinou Well at least he's not flashing anyone this time... is he? >.>
I really loved this episode, mainly for all the reasons you already stated. I liked the ConYuu stuff, and loved the Yuuram things. :D
And I love the fact that Wolfram broke the engagement because the king and the kingdom are more important than personal affections. This makes me just adore him more. Ditto! XD
Eek! I haven't seen that one before. XD So then, Shinou has developed a habit of flashing Murata! ; )
Sadly, I don't know very much about the novels. I've run across scans here and there (though not that particular illustration), I've read a translation of a portion of the first novel, I've read some discussions, but sadly that's about it. : (
"Shinou: It's okay to have feelings for boys, I had a harem too when I was king. Though one of my bishonens turned out to be... well that's another story."
Ahahaha, that made me lol in real life and it's past 2AM. Lets hope I didn't wake anybody up, eh?

Yes, Wolfram is very lovely here -- capable, committed and does what needs to be done without hesitation. He makes his own mind and he doesn't waver.
