Biscuits = cookies, yes. They're sometimes called cookies here as well, but that's come in fairly recently. I was brought up to call 'em biscuits so that's what I call them. A scone is close to what an American calls a biscuit, although from what I understand, over there they're a savoury accompanyment to a meal. Over here and in Britain, they're a sweet; they're eaten with butter, jam, whipped cream etc. It's hard to find them as good as me dear old Mum used to make, but on the extremely rare occasions I do I usually end up scoffing the lot. A Devonshire tea is the most delicious thing; a pot of tea, warn, fresh scones, fresh whipped cream and a sweet jam. I'm drooling just thinking about it.
So, with Gunter's arm in a sling he would have found it difficult to cut and spread a scone one-handed, and he would have had to ask Conrart to do it or risk looking even clumsier, so he corrected himself and asked for biscuits.
