The sound of anguished weeping halted her outside the servants’ quarters. She pushed the door open to see Sangria sitting at a table and crying, while Lazania and Doria tried unsuccessfully to console her.
‘What’s wrong?’
They blinked in shock, before Sangria said: ‘Norman-I thought he-but he-’
She dissolved into tears again, and Anissina rapped a hand on the table sharply. ‘No more tears! You are a smart, beautiful, independent woman! It’s his loss. Stop crying over him!’
Sangria sniffled and slowly wiped away her tears, and she smiled kindly at the maid before turning and leaving.
