Yes. I'm a bit mystified that so many people on the DC boards were a) looking forward to this issue b) surprised by the turn of events.

::sigh:: I'll add it to my list of deaths that didn't happen in my world. At this point, the list is so long, I've lost track of half of them.

Well, I don't know yet if she's dead. Maybe Hush hooked her up to one of those blood pumping machines, eh? And then he'll be extra gruesome and taunt Bruce with Selina's heart and it'll be like a really bad metaphor. *muffles laughter*

But I'm not joking about Zatanna fixing it, if Selina's not quite dead (looks around for Rodents of Unusual Size). After all, this is Diniverse where Bruce and Zatanna a sekretly in deep and abiding love... even though Bruce virulently mistrusts her after his mindwipe... so maybe she would do it out of love. *makes doe eyes*

Har!

I have to admit to liking Bruce/Zatanna despite the fact it, well, is incredibly violently OOC ;) But it's the sort of ship I like to keep in fanon. ::shakes head:: In my mind, that whole Bruce/Zatanna thing was a good fic I read that just happened to have pretty pictures...

And like you, I'm at the point of "Oh look, someone else died ::yawn::. Is there anything good on TV tonight?"

Oh, I can see how it could work, what with Zatanna being the girl it's almost impossible to kill. Like Wonder Woman. But, it doesn't involve Catwoman so I'm not interested. ;) You know me.

I don't think there's anything good on TV tonight. We watched a Romulan related TNG episode that made it blatantly clear that Picard and Sarek were lovers. Amanda probably rolled her eyes at that, too. (Personally, I think Vulcans are into free-love, despite their born-married social norm).

Yes. I'll make sure to double-check when I stop by Fudd's today.

After the solo title got driven into the ground, I thought things couldn't get worse -- but I was wrong.

Oh yes. I've had misgivings about this plot ever since I realized Catwoman was getting canceled and she was starring in a major batbook. I've been sitting here watching fans squee about it over on the DC boards and now I'm watching them reel in shock. e_e Oh well. Maybe she'll survive, but I'm not holding my breath with a Final Crisis in action.

I just looked at the scans ... You're right, she may survive -- her heart's missing, but she's hooked up to an apparatus that seems to have kept her alive. (It's the funnies we're talking about, after all.) But it's always a bummer to see Selina deployed as a simplistic plot device.

AFAIK, Selina didn't do anything in the story except tag and along to be available for kidnapping/murder, so, yeah, plot device. The machine exists and it's used during heart transplants, but as others have noted: it must be engaged before the blood vessels are severed and does not fit in an ambulance. Even putting that aside, we've got multiple non-sterile environments combined with a gaping chest wound. Realistically, Selina's dead even if Bruce does get her heart back. Multiple organ failure, brain damage, systematic infection or gangrene, damaged blood vessels....

Nevertheless, I would expect the average Superhero to "get better". If she's dead, it's WiR. If she survives, it's still WiR because she didn't do squat in this story. It's like all those times that Slam almost died over in her book so she could wangst about it. It results in that same cold disinterest.

WTF has happened to DC. I abandoned Marvel for five years because of stunts like this. First, Marvin and Wendy and now this. Seriously, WTF!

Well, it works like this: stunt is put into play. Fans buy it out of morbid curiosity. Fans think the story sucks. DC only sees that it sold well. New fans come on board who haven't experienced this cycle yet....
