DC Solicits: Catwoman

I know, haven't made a Catwoman post in ages (because I haven't been reading). Well, it's canceled as of issue #81, finally. Edit: Issue #82. I thought they would drag out that inevitable turn for another year, despite the pitiful writing and truly patronizing, feeble concept of "cunning, intelligent, strong-willed woman" found in its pages. I'm glad that they've finally taken it out behind the barn and shot it. With every issue I read of Pfeiffer's work, I missed Brubaker more and more. It was just embarrassingly bad.

I can only figure he was a one hit wonder with HERO, because he's tanked two regular titles, now, if we ignore Amazons Attack. The biggest problem I have with his writing is: he'll come up with good hooks but diddle around with some trivial surface plot, ignoring the central issues, then randomly stop writing that subplot and declare it finished even though it was never explored, let alone resolved. So rocks fell.

I'm sad, but relieved. There won't be that awful characterization of Catwoman anymore, but there won't be a Catwoman title anymore, either. *sigh*

With any luck, Dini will surprise me by portraying Selina as an intelligent human being. That's all I ask. (If Batman is also an intelligent human being, who resists the urge to pile on judgmental blame to foster his own emo, I'll be further pleased). *g*

Amen to that! *hopes it happens*

At least no-book frees up the character for other writers to use. (Only Batman, Superman and Wolverine can appear in multiple titles). While I'm not holding my breath over Dini's version, I'm keeping in mind that he was likely restricted by the moral requirements of children's programming. *is briefly overwhelmed by loathing for that feeble-brained, fawning thing from TAS, who routinely walked into hand-cuffs and was surprised by it*

On the upside, Manhunter is back.
