Another j2 fanfic, I know it's been a little while since my last. But for me this is really quick. So I'm not liking this one quite as much as the first, I kinda lost my flow. But I'm sure someone out there will think it's tollerable, lol :)

destiny393 Darkness had fallen quickly and a cool breeze replaced the warmth of the sun that had lasted most of the day. Leaning against the railings of the balcony, a bottle of beer in one hand, Jensen looked down on the garden below. He thought of the summer that had just past: the barbeques Jared and himself had enjoyed with family and friends, the quiet nights they had sat on the patio with a case of beer, and the rare, but perfect times they had laid out on the lawn together, hand in hand.
He sighed. He was going to miss that. Taking a swig from the bottle, he swallowed the liquid slowly, savouring the taste. They had had the most wonderful summer together, the first summer when they had been honest with themselves and everyone around them. Jared had finally convinced him that it was time to tell people about them. Surprisingly, to Jensen anyway, most people knew. They had seen the connection between them from the very beginning.
He smiled thinking again of the relief he felt after telling everyone. The way Jared hugged him tight from behind, kissed him gently on the cheek, and whispered “I love you”. They no longer had to hide their relationship. And since then they hadn’t: they drove to set together, held hands when they walked down the street and dined out as a couple at their favourite restaurant. The past summer really had been wonderful…
But now the summer was over and their busy lives resumed. Jared was already off, he had flown to LA for some film audition his agent said he just could not miss. If the producers were happy with the audition they would make sure that the rest of the casting and a completed script was ready for filming to begin right after they had finished filming the next season of Supernatural. That would mean that they wouldn’t get a break together next year, cos the film was going to take up all of their summer months off. Jared was going to try and sneak in a few conventions here and there, so they would see each other briefly. Jensen couldn’t imagine being separated from Jared for so long, not after they had spent the past couple of months constantly at each other’s sides. It was enough of a struggle, going a few days apart, while Jay was in LA.
Jensen looked up, the stars were beginning to become visible in the Vancouver night sky. He always felt a comfort when he could see the stars. He always had. Ever since he was young the glitter of stars that covered the blackness of the night, gave him a sense of hope and belonging…and something he couldn’t quite place. They were becoming brighter by the minute, shining down on him. He sighed thinking of what Jared was doing right this second.
Jensen turned suddenly, he could have sworn he heard something inside the house. Probably just the dogs, they were just as unhappy as he was when Jared was away. They had been so quiet and he knew that they didn’t enjoy their morning walk with him, because it just wasn’t the same. Twisting back towards the night sky, Jen thought of how much longer he was going to be alone. Jay would be back tomorrow, he almost what to drive to the airport now ready for his flight to land tomorrow afternoon. He hated waiting, and the fact that time seemed to be slowing even more was not helping.
Sipping more deeply from what was left in his bottle, Jensen felt a warmth that he hadn’t felt for a while. He knew it wasn’t the beer, he hadn’t drunk nearly enough yet. Closing his eyes, he could smell the sweet scent that was forever embedded in his memory, the scent that he could only describe as Jared’s. Opening his tired eyes again, he turned slowly to walk back inside. Mid turn he stopped, had he really drank too much. Jared stood in the doorway, he dropped his bags and in one stride was beside Jensen. He smiled, that big puppy grin, and pulled the other man close. Jensen felt the heat radiating from every inch of his lover’s body, he leaned into his touch. He sighed so deeply, his breath brushing over the skin of Jay’s neck. He squirmed slightly, it must have tickled. Jensen ran his hands up Jared’s back, firm muscles under his shirt.
“I must be dreaming” Jensen whispered against Jared’s lips, kissing them lightly. He didn’t want him to disappear. Jared stepped backwards, Jensen’s hands falling at his side, the bottle of beer still in his grasp. Jared looked hard at him, his eyes never moving away from the other man’s.
“I leave you for a few days and come home to find you in this state, what’s wrong Jen?” Jared’s voice was laced with nothing but concern and possibly relief that he was now home. Jensen was quiet for a moment, like he couldn’t quite find the words.
“You aren’t meant to be back til tomorrow” Not what Jared was expecting but at least he finally said something.
“I couldn’t take the role, I can barely cope with being away from you for a few days, so I can’t imagine what it would be like for months on end.” Jensen looked up at Jared, finally looking away from the darker dot of wood on the balcony floor he had been focusing on. Had he really missed him as much in return. Jensen turned away from Jared and went back to leaning on the railings.
“What’s wrong?” Jared crept up behind him, wrapping his muscular arms around his waist. Jensen let his head fall back onto the other man’s shoulder. Jared squeezed him tighter against his chest.
“I don’t want you to regret anything Jay…”
“What do you mean, I don’t regret anything.”
“I mean, you should take the role, it could be the making of you. You have such talent, don’t waste it. You should go to LA.” Jared loosened his gripped slightly, he didn’t know where this was coming from.
“I’ve decided, Jen, I’m not taking the role. There will be other opportunities and it’s not like we’re not already busy enough. I didn’t really get a feel for the character anyway, I guess I couldn’t really concentrate. I was thinking of you….” Jensen took a deep breath, Jared’s scent filled the air around him.
“If you’re sure….” Jensen turned slightly in Jared’s arms. He reached up kissing him more desperately this time. Jared felt Jensen relax against his body. He turned him all the way around, pulling him even closer til he could feel Jen’s heartbeat beneath his.
Thump, thump, thump.
“The only thing I’m sure of is you.”
Lips on lips, desperation and need in the air, Jensen knew this is where he belonged. The sky, now littered with shiny beads, stars in the black sky shining down upon them.
