Spoiler-ish Question

I finally sat down and read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson the other day and WOW. That is one intense and detailed book. I was quite astonished at how much happened and how well it all hung together. I also grew very fond of the characters introduced. I'm debating whether I want to see the movie. I think her thought on the matter was that it would be better for the families to never know that their loved one suffered at the hands of these maniacs. Or maybe she wanted to deny some posthumous fame for the killers. Or something.

I had a hard time with the book, and I couldn't figure out why, but a chance encounter with this article from The F Word (found in Bitch Magazine) brought it home for me:

Good thoughts.

That article makes a whole pile of excellent points.

I remember thinking, at several moments in the book, that at least it wasn't as explicitly gross as Level 26: Dark Origins by Anthony Zuiker (of CSI creation fame).

I think I liked it because I relate really WAY TOO MUCH with outsider, loner characters & I found Lisbeth appealing.

Right-o! I really enjoyed Lisbeth as a character and invested a lot in wanting her to succeed/punish the perps.

Reading the second one might help you with your query. It is also very good, but also very intense. I've yet to read the third.

There have already been movies of the three books made. Do not accept the Daniel Craig re-make. Watch the originals, they're fantastic.

Hmm. Ok. It probably won't be for a while as I'm broke, but I'll keep it in mind.

Do not accept the Daniel Craig re-make.

But... but... but... it's Daniel Craig! He made Cowboys and Aliens awesome. He can do anything!

Well, the Daniel Craig one may be okay, too, but the woman they got to play Lisbeth in the original movies really had her bang-on, I think.
