I finally sat down and read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson the other day and WOW. That is one intense and detailed book. I was quite astonished at how much happened and how well it all hung together. I also grew very fond of the characters introduced. I'm debating whether I want to see the movie. I had a hard time with the book, and I couldn't figure out why, but a chance encounter with this article from The F Word (found in Bitch Magazine) brought it home for me:

That article makes a whole pile of excellent points.
I remember thinking, at several moments in the book, that at least it wasn't as explicitly gross as Level 26: Dark Origins by Anthony Zuiker (of CSI creation fame).
I think I liked it because I relate really WAY TOO MUCH with outsider, loner characters & I found Lisbeth appealing.

There have already been movies of the three books made. Do not accept the Daniel Craig re-make. Watch the originals, they're fantastic.
