I must say you're remarkably cool-headed about the university's advice to Freshmen on drinking. I'd be running in circles, flapping my hands. No, actually I wouldn't, because I trust that I raised my kids right. Hence, your cool-headedness probably. Good for you.
Actually, I'm pretty disgusted by their advice, but I recognize that they have no real control other than to bounce a student. D'Argo and ED takes communion wine every week and he occasionally cons me out of a drink if I have beer or wine (a six pack lasts 6 months in our house) but they are both fascinated with alcoholic beverages. I think neither of them would deliberately do something stupid. I hope they wouldn't.
I have one kid (out of 3) who is fascinated with alcoholic beverages (a six-pack lasts 3 days in our house! :D) Another one is fascinated with swear words. I keep wondering how scary all this is going to get, and reminding myself that all I can do is the best I can do. Like you, I just hope they're taking in good doses of good judgement as they figure it all out.
