im thinking about purchasing a laptop.

anyone have any advice/recommendations/suggestions?

yeah, get a mac, my windows laptop is usually pretty good but sometimes it'll just freeze, etc.

plus, you don't need a popup blocker or virusware with macs : D

although, joko, if you don't really need one and you aren't going to bring it to school, i would think about reconsidering - it's a lot of money, and it'll take forever to transfer all of your files.

Go for something cheap if all you are going to use it for is Word and internet.

I'm getting a mac because all the graphic design programs use them, actually the entire industry that I plan on going in to uses them. I wish I didn't have to fork out the 1400 bucks though.

Not so. Every adobe, macromedia, and basically any program you would need to be a graphic designer is on a PC now. This was not always the case, PC's are now adapting.

However, as a graphic designer, I MUCH prefer macs, and despise PC's although it's good to be able to work from both.

In my case I rather stick to one or the other since I am officially computer illiterate, and mac seems so be a little more friendly.

he likes to be all mysterious and annoymous like that, cept i know its him bcuz he leaves his inital "b" at the end.
