I've heard that with aromatic fruit, like strawberries and peaches, the best way to judge ripeness is from the smell of them. If you can't smell anything, you won't taste anything either. So I'm sure they tasted wonderful!
i always smell my produce, lol. i hate when they wrap the strawberries in plastic so you can't smell them at all. in fact, i was sniffing the oranges the other day when i was shopping and a woman asked me about it. sometimes if it doesn't smell at the time, it will ripen later, but not always. but yeah, i had picked up two oranges and two apples, because that was what i needed, and then there were these bags of oranges and apples that were cheaper and i could smell them, so i ended up buying 7 lbs of mostly extra fruit that i then had to lug home on the bus, lol. at least now i won't have to buy them for a while.
my dad's father was actually a produce man, so my dad taught me about picking produce when i was a young girl. it's one of my fond memories ... but mangoes were not common then, lol, so he couldn't tell me how to pick a good one of those ... he also taught me how to cut up a chicken, lol, but that is another story. ;)
i'm glad you've been enjoying the smoothie recipes. for the challenge, we can't use dairy, but you certainly can, lol, and i can once the challenge is ended, should i so desire. i do love greek yogurt ... in the meantime, the chia seeds add a bit of protein, anyway.
