Yum! Another one I copied and pasted into my files! I drive by the produce stand every few days, just itching to see them open once again. I'm getting more and more fed up with the grocery store I go to. When they run out of things, which are in variable condition to begin with, they are out until their next delivery. The produce guy, however, picks up fresh produce from Philly EVERY MORNING. I am looking forward to eating fresh stuff again!

i am excited for your produce stand opening, lol! that is very vexing about your local grocery store. i am so lucky to live here - i remember when i first moved to nyc, how vexing it was to try to buy produce there. in fact, i didn't buy tomatoes at all for a really long time - i just couldn't bring myself to buy those little red baseballs, lol. remember, that was thirty years ago, so there was even less access/variety than there is now.

*Nods* I pick tomatoes out of sandwiches from the deli or salads in restaurants. After tasting them absolutely freshly picked from my own garden, I just can't bring myself to eat one of those pretenders. One of my favorite ways to eat home-grown tomatoes is a Caprese salad: Alternate slices of tomato with slices of fresh mozzarella. Top with torn basil leaves, a sprinkle of sea salt, a grind of pepper. Drizzle with XVOO (extra virgin olive oil) and balsamic vinegar. It tastes like a bit of heaven!

i *love* a good caprese salad. and now that i know that i have a use for any extra basil, i'm much more likely to make one, lol.

nowadays there are heirloom tomatoes in the grocery stores so at least i can get something that tastes like a real tomato, though nothing is as good as home grown - though i only get those if anybody i know shares them with me. :)

I know the theory behind kale chips, but I haven't(read: Mr. C hasn't) made them as of yet. You'll have to give a report on that. :D

how nice to have a husband who cooks. *remembers fondly relationships with boys who cooked for me*

i will be sure to advise if/when i actually do it. one thing i know - the kale must be quite dry, or it steams instead of crisping up - ick!
