I don't know *how* on earth you'd ever be able to tell her anything other than the entire truth. I'm pretty sure if you came out with it then she'd be decently understanding. I mean, your parents aren't really religious anymore, and they don't strike me as the hardcore conservative type (well, not your mom at least). So maybe you could tell her perhaps?
