A man is struck by a car, left for dead on the sidewalk, and many people do nothing. The police show up and he is taken to a hospital in a reasonable amount of time. But the problem is that no one on the scene actually stopped to help him in any way. Four people called 911 but no one stopped to help. And everyone keeps wondering how could that ( Read more... )

Thank you!!!

One morning several weeks back, I stopped at Panera for breakfast. A woman with her hands full of bags and coffee was coming up to the door as I was entering. I held the door open for her and smiled. The look on her face threw me. She had gratitude written all over her and thanked me repeatedly. The simple act of holding the door open for her made her day. For me it was normal courtesy. I thought about her for awhile and wondered how many times the door was slammed in her face.

I believe taking the time to help someone will change the world. It is amazing what one smile can do.

yeah I don't know what happened, somewhere along the way people just stopped taking the time to do those kinds of things

So some people DID actually call 911? Good! That makes me feel a bit better. I can't imagine seeing someone lying in the road and not doing Something.

I think one of the problems with helping today is that there are people who stage accidents or roadside breakdowns so that they can prey upon the few people left who are willing to stop and help. This hasn't stopped my husband and I--we have seen people broke down and helped. Granted, they are usually elderly, but they ARE strangers. On the other side of THAT coin, I have had male friends stop to help women and it terrified those women. The guys weren't predators, they really were just trying to help.

Then there are the lawsuits. There are also the well-meaning who do more harm than good--I have to say if I was in an accident, I would rather get no help then help might may leave me crippled. Sometimes calling 911 really is the best thing. However, you're very right that one should never assume somebody else already called.

it's ok, I understand!

I think the police were actually there within a few minutes of the accident. but there i footage from a traffic camera that shows lots of cars slowing down and looking but then driving away.

A telling of the story opens my favorite movie.

This was excellent and so very true.

Congratulations, you finished all the topics. A lot of work for you all.

And great entries too for the amount of time you had to write them all in.
