The Hunger Games (warning: possible spoilers, ranting about racism, etc.)

Apr 02, 2012 01:42

So I saw The Hunger Games with my dongsaeng this past week and I quite enjoyed it. I've never read the books. I doubt I will until all the movies are out - it's a thing I have, see... I always try to watch the movie first because it's been my experience that watching the movie after I read the book leaves me disappointed (the movie is never as ( Read more... )

I agree completely on everything you've said. People are so ignorant and the amount of times I've read comments like 'I didn't envision Rue as black' or 'I think Cinna should have been white' is appalling. I don't even want to re-type the worst and most hateful ones, smh. Sometimes I think the fact that the internet allows people to hide who they really are encourages them to say horrible things like this :(

You should write that book. I'm white and I would probably still thoroughly enjoy it.

I can understand someone saying "oh, that's not how I pictured the character". We all have our own mental image of the characters we read. And from what I understand, there wasn't a clear description of Cinna, so eh, he could have gone whatever way. (the basic inability to get african descent from 'dark brown skin' is a little more mind-boggling, though I can think of a handful of races that could possibly have fit - white not being one of them)

But the rage.... There's no justification for all the rage and hate. None at all.

Maybe I will write it. >_> You know... assuming I ever finish up all my fandom obligations. ^^;;

Exactly. It makes me question are these people really that ignorant or can they not even read a book properly.

Haha, I'm a fan of your fanfiction ^^ but don't worry, lol, I understand how hard it is to update regularly.

I'm quoting the whole "Do not rage at the fact that a perfectly adorable little girl is playing a perfectly adorable little girl". I had quickly read the book before seeing the movie and Rue was such a heart wrencher in both mediums. It's just plain appalling what came out of the knee jerk response to the film.

We like to think we've moved beyond it, but really, we've just dressed it up prettier ribbons and given it sharper, more hidden knives.

I agree, but on a lighter note, that sentence you wrote sounds like a fic prompt. ^_^;

I'm trying to decide if I want to wait until I read the books (which may happen...this summer....maybe?) or just go see it....sometime >_>; stupid schedule while it's still actually on the big screen.

Watch the movie. What little I saw from the people posting the description paragraph's... it's written in first person present.

I probably will not read them as I cannot stand that writing style. The Dresden Files are about the only books written in first person that I can stand...

As for how long it'll be in theatres... considering the fact that it's opening weekend was sold out pretty much solidly (it grossed something like 158million) I don't think you have to worry about it disappearing any time soon.

*nods* 'k. I should have way more free time after Hairspray goes up in two weeks, maybe then.
