Summary:
~*~*~
It was a little disconcerting to lean away from his books, glance at the clock, and have the neon green numbers inform him that it was 3am and he'd been studying for almost seven hours.
Not that it was odd for Changmin to lose himself in his books, but usually someone showed up and forced him to stop around midnight. Jaejoong and Yoochun, he knew, were already in bed. They'd both come down with a nasty stomach flu that was making them - and everyone around them - absolutely miserable.
That still left two other band mates, though.
Curious, he put away his work and shut his book before going in search of the others.
It wasn't hard and he had to cover his mouth to suppress the snicker that wanted to escape at the sight of them.
Junsu was on the floor in front of the television, curled around his ps3, controller clutched tightly in one hand. On the screen, his character was dead, proof that he'd simply passed out in the middle of his game. Yunho was on the couch, one arm hanging off the side, a book at his finger tips.
It wasn't often that Changmin was the one ushering the others to bed.
He nudged Junsu with his foot, laughing softly as his friend swatted at him and mumbled about one more level. “One more level tomorrow. Bed now.”
With another grumbling protest, Junsu glared up at him. “I just have to finish- oh... when did I die?”
“It's been quiet in here for the last few hours, so... probably a while ago.”
Junsu sighed and made a face. “Now I'll have to start over. Man, what a waste of my night.”
Despite the grumbling, Junsu obediently put the game away and trudged towards the bedroom.
Changmin shook his head with a grin and moved to nudge Yunho awake. “Hyung. Hyung, you're going to have a cramp in your back if you sleep there.”
“Hmm?” Yunho blinked up at him with sleepy eyes. “Minnie?”
His smile softened considerably. He loved all of his bandmates of course, but he could admit - to himself at least - that Yunho held a special place in his heart. “Yeah. Come on, hyung. We need to get you into bed.”
“Mm...” The older man snuggled deeper into the couch. “m'comfy...”
“Hyung...” Changmin rolled his eyes in fond exasperation before scooping Yunho up.
It was a testament to just how sleepy Yunho really was that the sudden shift didn't seem to alarm him at all. He simply adjusted slightly and snuggled closer, making himself comfortable against Changmin's chest with a sleepy purr.
Changmin couldn't help but laugh again, glad that he'd been working out lately. Yunho wasn't heavy by any stretch of the imagination, but the younger man knew that only six months before, he likely would have had difficulty carrying him all the way to the bedroom.
Once he had the other settled, Changmin headed back to fetch his books from the kitchen. On the way back through, he paused to grab the book Yunho had dropped. There was no point in leaving it laying around for five half-asleep guys to trip over in the morning.
It wasn't until he was sitting it down on Yunho's nightstand that he realized it wasn't actually a book, per se, so much as a nicely styled diary.
He glanced over at Yunho's sleeping face, curiosity stirring.
“Didn't know you kept one of these, hyung,” he murmured to himself. For a long moment he hesitated. Yunho was his band leader and friend, the one that he cared for and respected most of all. He probably shouldn't...
Except that everyone and their grandmother knew what he wrote in his diary - it had been bandied about on national television, even, and while it had largely been Jaejoong, Yunho had had a hand in it.
And as far as Changmin was concerned, that gave him certain rights.
Grinning, he ruffled Yunho's hair. “You'll have it back before you know it, hyung.”

It was almost three days later before Changmin was actually able to find the time to sit down somewhere by himself and read the diary he'd 'borrowed'.
The edges were worn with age and he was slightly startled by the date of the first entry. Apparently Yunho had been writing in the diary for longer than Changmin had even known him. It seemed odd to him that he hadn't noticed in all those years.
Shrugging it off, he smiled at the tiny, carefully printed words.
I got in today. Excited but scared too. What if I'm not good enough?
Changmin scoffed and rolled his eyes. As if.
He continued to skim through the early days of Yunho's life as a trainee. There weren't entries every day and few were more than a few lines long, but it was charming and cute to see what child Yunho had found noteworthy over the years. New friends and his impressions of them seemed to get the most attention. Donghae was fun and laughter while Heechul was the coolest guy I've ever met. Jaejoong was really, really pretty but man he needs a new haircut. That made Changmin laugh. Jaejoong's hair had been more or less fixed by the time he'd met the older singer, but he'd seen the pictures.
Lessons were largely skipped except a few dark entries that hinted at just how difficult a time it had been for Yunho. I told Hae I didn't need ice, but he never listens. I'm glad he's my friend. Seeing the complaints and fears that Yunho had never voiced written down made Changmin more glad than ever that their own dance lessons and choreography drills had always fallen largely on Yunho's shoulders.
The secret confessions of a first kiss with Heechul - I think I get why girls say they have butterflies in their stomach followed immediately by a comparison with Jaejoong's kiss -wow... I mean... wow. made Changmin laugh softly.
There was the excitement of being grouped with Jaejoong, Heechul, and Kangin - I'm glad we're all friends, this is going to be so great! - and the mixed feelings of trying out for a new band when they hadn't even gotten to really do anything yet - It feels like betrayal even though I know it's just a tryout, just a chance for a bigger success.
It took Changmin a few entries to realize that this really cute boy with an amazing smile that Yunho developed a crush on was him and he had to backtrack and re-read those entries.
Jaejoong says I should ask him out, but wouldn't that be weird? I mean, I don't even know his name yet!
He couldn't help but smile softly as he imagined those conversations. He only vaguely remembered his first few weeks in SM, until they'd stopped bombarding him with new faces and names and grouped him with his future band mates. He thought maybe he remembered that Yunho had been particularly shy around him then - every time he smiles at me, my mind goes completely blank. He must think I'm such an idiot - but at the time, he'd thought the older boy was just that way naturally.
Time between entries got longer after that and the entries themselves frequently ended up being a simple record of events - Debuted - Dec. 2003 and notations getting teeth fixed tomorrow, but every now and then there was one that stayed true to the journals original purpose.
Changmin is feeling homesick today. Maybe I should loan him Bambi... She always makes me feel better.
Mom sent us cookies. I don't think she really gets that we're supposed to be watching what we eat. It was really sweet, though. Maybe no one will notice if we each have one?
There were huge couple banners at the concert tonight. Jaejoong thought the YunJae one was hilarious. -_- I could too top if I wanted to. I think the Yoosu ones were kind of embarrassing for Junsu. I wonder why there aren't ever any MinHo ones..
;_; Minnie was so mad at me today.
Changmin tilted his head at that one, considering. He couldn't remember a time where he'd been 'so mad' at Yunho in particular over anyone else. He shook his head and hummed softly to himself as he continued on.
~*~*~
“Ah, there it is. I figured you probably had it.” Junsu laughed and pulled the book out of Changmin's hands. “You know, he's been looking for this all week long.”
Changmin made a face and tried to snatch the book back. He'd already read it through once, but he hadn't been able to keep him self from reading it again. “He read my journal. It's only fair that I get to read his.”
Junsu laughed and vaulted over the couch. “Please. Your diary is a pathetic excuse for one. You don't have Yunho's emotional depths.”
“Give that back, jack ass.”
“Nuh uh. I'm gonna give it back to Yunho so he'll quit going through everyone's bags looking for it.” As he backed out the changing room door, Junsu flipped him off with a grin. “I'll make sure to tell him you found it absolutely riveting, though.”
Changmin didn't bother trying to chase Junsu down. There was no point.
The little shit ran too damned fast - especially when he was in a tattling mood.
~*~*~
“So... Um...” Yunho looked nervous as he shifted from one foot to the other, a familiar book clutched against his chest. A faint blush dusted his cheeks and his eyes darted around the room, looking at everything except Changmin. “You...”
Changmin watched him for a moment. “You were right, you know.”
“Huh?” Startled, Yunho finally met his gaze. “About what?”
“It would have been weird if you'd asked me out then.”
“..” Disappoint flickered across Yunho's face and he seemed to deflate slightly. “Oh.”
He let that hang in the air before finally smiling. “But maybe you should try it now.”
“What?” For a second, only blank confusion, then dawning comprehension and with it, an answering smile. “Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
As Changmin pulled Yunho in for their first kiss, he smirked to himself. Tonight's entry would definitely be better than 'wow' if he had anything to say about it.
