Save our Wolves...

I do a lot of petitioning and writing to senators and reps, particularly where the environment, animal, women's, and child's rights are involved.  I try to make my friends and family aware, too, so they can decide if they want to (or can) help out.  A lot of times it's just emails, but I do donate half of what I get for Christmas money to charities ( Read more... )

I have a huge issue with the helicopter hunting of any animal...how can you even call it hunting when you're in an aerial position and are using automatic weapons? It's slaughter...no other word will suffice. To then expect to increase the caribou population to such an extent, simply so they can be killed by sport hunters...how does that make sense? Does the environment support 100K caribou? Not likely. They certainly can't claim that they're doing it to increase the harvest by hunters because, having lived in the north, I can assure you that probably 80% of the hunters that head north to kill things will pay a ridiculous amount to ship claws, pelts, and antlers home, but will leave the meat rotting where the animal fell. I have no problem hunting when it's done with respect for the animals and the environment. When a successful hunt means that the animal will be as fully utilized as possible, rather than simply left to rot after the pictures have been taken. That's not what we're talking about in this case though, is it?

So, in order to save the caribou, they are going to kill the predator that kills the animals that compete with the caribou for its food, and winnows the weak and sick out of the herd of caribou. So there’s going to be more food for the weaker members of the herd to live off of, and since they’re not being culled naturally, they continue passing on the weaker and sicker genes.

So that humans can go shoot them later with people like Ted Nugent.

See, I’d like to see a show like Whale Wars, where people sniper areal hunters. Hell, I’d send in money to fund it.

Stay classy, Wasilla.
