Summary: The games people play.

Tatsumi has had bad days before. He just can't seem to think of where and when or even how as he closes the door, some part of his mind desperately hoping that by doing so he can keep everything that has made this particular day his own little miniature hell on the other side of it. Unfortunately, there is another part of his mind that takes malicious delight in pointing out just how incredibly impractical and ultimately pointless that hope is when confronted by modern technology and the people he works with.

Sighing inwardly, Tatsumi decides not to pay attention to the debate warring in the back of his head and ventures down the hall where evidence points to Watari having beaten him home. Frowning as he follows the scent of fresh tea and something that smells overwhelmingly of apples, Tatsumi pauses at the edge of the living room. Watari, it seems, is caught in the heat of battle, mouth curved slightly in a disturbingly predatory smile as he beats the life out of a misshapen figure.

"Watari?" Tatsumi asks, thinking - rightfully so, as it turns out - that just this once it's perfectly understandable to forego the usual greeting ritual.

Watari glances over at him briefly, that uncomfortably feral smile softening slightly as he catches sight of Tatsumi in the hallway.

"Oh good, you're home." Watari says, smile widening slightly as Tatsumi gives a little nod of acknowledgement. "Have a seat, Tatsumi. I made some tea and those little apple things you like."

Raising an eyebrow as Watari turns back to crushing the life out of his opponent, Tatsumi picks his way through the veritable nest of cushions and pillows Watari has filled the living room with until he reaches the couch. Watari flashes him a distracted smile and scoots aside to make room for Tatsumi, who sinks down into the overstuffed monstrosity Watari loves so much. It's easily the largest piece of furniture they own, barring the bed, and cost far too much for Tatsumi's liking...but after a day like the one he's had? He's immensely grateful Watari managed to talk him into getting it.

Tatsumi relaxes into the cushions for a long moment and considers pouring himself a mug of tea when Watari lets out a victorious cry and throws his hands in the air.

"I take it you won." Tatsumi says dryly.

Watari grins at him and leans over to kiss Tatsumi's cheek.

"And you would be right, too." He says, reaching out to push Tatsumi's glasses higher up on his nose.

Tatsumi smiles and attempts to motivate himself into doing something more productive than simply vegetating when he notices Watari watching him thoughtfully. As he does the bickering in the back of his mind comes to an abrupt halt as he places the look on Watari's face.

"Here," Watari says, tossing something at him as he turns back to the battle at hand. "You look like you could use this."

Tatsumi raises an eyebrow at that as he stares at the game controller Watari has thrown at him.

"For all intents and purposes," Watari continues gesturing at several rather short, distressingly deformed beings as they enter the battlefield, "they are every little thing that has made life unpleasant for you today."

Tatsumi's other eyebrow goes up as he realizes Watari's plan, such as it is, is not as well thought out as it could be.

"And don't worry so much, Tatsumi." Watari says settling back against the cushions. "You'll do just fine."

"Watari - "

"Ready?" Watari asks, checking to see that his weapons are equipped before he sets off, leaving Tatsumi little choice but to follow in his wake.

"I really don't see how this is supposed to help," Tatsumi mutters, frowning as his inexperience in this form of fighting requires more of his attention than he'd like to admit.

Watari smirks as he flings a grenade and something screeches as it goes off. "Well, for one thing I activated the invincibility codes, so there's nothing these guys can do to kill us."

Tatsumi's frown fades as he contemplates exactly what that means in relation to what they're doing.

"For another, you can think of this as a sort of therapy session. Only with less talking and more high grade explosives."

There is a part - a small part - of Tatsumi that should probably find that thought more disturbing than it does, but...Watari does have a point. And there's tea and those little apple pastries Watari makes that Tatsumi suspects of harboring some sort of addictive agent, what with the way he can never resist them.

"I really don't think this is going to solve anything." Tatsumi tries, attempting to apply normal, rational logic to Watari's form of logic.

Watari snorts and pauses the game to look at Tatsumi. "Well, no. But it's a nice distraction for a little while, don't you think?"

Tatsumi doesn't answer right away as he's busy aiming for one of the enemy soldiers and imagining that it's a certain misplaced report with certain vital information that went missing at a crucial time. He doesn't have Watari's skill with guns or his affinity for explosives, but Tatsumi supposes he could learn to appreciate the game. If nothing else it allows him time spent with Watari. The fact that he knows no matter how hard their opponents try they won't be able to pull them down is just an added benefit.
