Telekinesis: The Mysterious Death of Charles Xi

It was dark, and Charles was on his way home. Al would be waiting for him. He smiled to himself as he thought about Al. He knew a lot of people, but they only knew him as Charax, the gamemaster. He was so lucky to have someone as beautiful and as loving as Annalisa Benson in his life.
Often, while he was going home, he would scavenge for spare pieces and interesting knick-knacks for the game. People threw out all sorts of useful things.
He was just about to leave, when something caught his eye.
"Hmm, that's an interesting stone."
But it wasn't a stone, after all. It looked like an egg... Charles wished he had a flashlight, so he could examine it more closely.
He reached down to pick it up -
but suddenly the egg hissed and started to glow!
"Oh, wow!" Charles had never seen anything like it.
The egg split, revealing something that looked like a metallic spider. The legs fastened onto the ground and then grew, pushing a bright orb of light upwards.
CLICK.
The light went out.
He felt a presence behind him, and turned.
"What - ?"
