I didn't realize Christchurch was still so much in recovery from the earthquake :( It must be very disconcerting to see the city like that... But glad the overall impression was reassuring.

And glad your trip went well as a whole.

It was definitely disconcerting, and pretty strange - because we're so tiny both land-wise and population-wise, we don't have disasters of that magnitude very often at all.
