My political leanings are in the opposite direction of yours, yet I'm following the Republican race as closely as I am looking at the Democrats. It will be interesting to see how the GOP race plays out, because each faction of the party is currently sailing under a different flag ( ... )

Huckabee is not a social conservative. He wants to impose rules based on his religion, but is otherwise a populist.

Romney is too smarmy.

McCain is Hillary Clinton with a bald spot and a better plan for the War on Terror.

Giuliani is a gun-grabber.

Thompson isn't doing bad everywhere. He tied with McCain in Iowa and came in second with 25% of the vote in Wyoming. I think you'll see him gain more ground.

The race on the Dem's side is definitely between Obama and HRC, but I think she will probably lose the nomination. Her support base in crumbling. Obama's strength is his oratory ability, but he lacks substance. Unfortunately, too many people are more interested in pretty noises than good ideas.

People say that Huckabee wants to oppose rules based on religion but I have never seen any evidence of it.

In fact he seems to always be saying "I personally feel but....."

For me the big thing about Huckabee is that he is the only candidate that want to put an end to the income tax.

Here's a thought though, regarding his tax plan: Because it's not an income tax, some day in the future it's possible that we could see ourselves getting that tax on good PLUS a tax on income. Now that we've HAD an income tax, it's a very tasty prize dangling in the face of politicians. We would probably have to have a constitutional amendment saying the gubmint isn't allowed to tax income.
