Nail post! EDIT: PHOTOS

I bought myself a little nail art kit from Sephora last week and I've been having some fun with it. The set includes a fiddly little brush and a dotting tool with two tips, so I've been able to do some more difficult nail project that had escaped me before.

Yay, pictures! I did something similar to your second photo with China Glaze's Liquid Leather to make black tips. I love the "new French manicure." I like to do a color, and then do the tip. Next time I do it, I'll try to remember to post a photo to my LJ.
