So... At iGy yesterday we had a guest speaker. We heard the life story of a transgendered/transsexual man (F2M). It was fascinating, really. It turns out he developed his own unisex way of speaking after his first grade teacher forced him to use the feminine form while speaking (In Hebrew, all the "I"s and "you"s etc. have masculine and feminine

Ooh, that is fascinating. I'm interested in how languages deal with gender, sexing pronouns, verbs, nouns, etc., and how that affects cognition. There's a psych experiment somewhere about how the gender a noun takes in your native language (assuming your native language sexes nouns) affects the way you think about the object it refers to, even inanimate objects like keys and doors.

Poor guy. . .at least in Russian there's a neuter gender. It's a bitch to learn, but I imagine Russian trans communities are finding it useful.

It's funny, because in Hebrew, the plural forms of some words make them sound the opposite of the gender that they are. Well, at least to me. =P
