Hello, cutey ...

Well, with the arrival of the svelte MacBook (see the new userpic) I suspect my iBook may soon be retired. The big decision is whether to get the MacBook before getting an iMac to replace my sick desktop PC (I know, I know. Never buy the first release, but it's sooo cute).

Which iBook do you have? I'm super curious how much faster the new machines really are... I've gotten mixed messages from folks who actually own them.

I have the 1.25ghz G4, so a long way from the fastest model.

With the exception of the graphics, the spec of the MacBook looks good. The integrated graphics doesn't bother me too much as save for the odd game and iPhoto, I'm not too into the graphics. Having a bit more "oomph" for Excel and the like would be appeciated though. Unfortunately, the Mac version of Office isn't Universal yet :(

Ah, but it is very close to my 17" PowerBook. I do a lot of Photoshop on my current laptop, but the new 17" has higher end graphics stuff (IIRC). I've always been suspicious of spec... I want the user who sits in front of the machine to say "Wow! This machine is faster!"

So on that basis, what do you think? Excel is still faster than on your iBook, ja?

I'm suspecting it's gonns be much the same - raw power and emulation under Rosetta cancelling each other out. I'll have to try one out at Regent Street. There's also the option of Boot Camp, Windows XP and that side of things ...
