"Come on," Eduardo says gently, "let's go get dinner."
Mark doesn't even bother to look away from the screen, just shakes her head no and keeps typing. Eduardo sighs and pleadingly looks over at Dusty and Chris, who both give him she's your problem, we can't help you looks back. Eduardo sighs again, fingers twisting in the washer-worn fabric of Mark's hoodie. It's soft in that way only things that have been washed a hundred times are, and Eduardo contemplates just burying her face in it. Instead, she tries again.
"Mark, you need to eat. Dusty says you haven't left your room since yesterday. You are going to pass out if you don't eat something."
"I'm fine, Edi," Mark says, still not looking away from her screen, "I won't pass out."
"Please."
That gets Mark to look away from her screen. She turns, her head tilted in the questioning look Eduardo knows translates into something like Edi is upset, that is not good. She's never seen Mark use it with anyone else, has seen Mark flat-out ignore Dusty and Chris when she thinks they're angry with her, and it sort of makes her heart stutter every time it happens. It makes her happy to know that maybe Mark cares.
"You worry too much," Mark says, which is not a no, "Edi."
"I don't think wanting my best friend to stay alive is worrying too much. Will you come to dinner?"
"Fine."
There is absolutely no venom behind that, no exasperation, which still sometimes startles Eduardo. She's so used to hearing Mark casually dismiss people and tear them apart that the way Mark acquiesces to certain things Eduardo asks her for makes Eduardo wonder if this is her way of being nice because they're . . . whatever. Dusty just calls it "Eduardo's magic Mark-taming powers," and Eduardo has never asked Mark about it directly.
But, Eduardo thinks as Mark gets up and slips on her flip-flops, it's not a bad thing.

Andrew wakes up to the same sounds every morning that he and Jesse are in the apartment together: the CATS soundtrack (sometimes in languages other than English, but Andrew has now heard it so many times that the language is completely inconsequential), the coffeemaker, something sizzling (pancakes, toast, whatever), and Jesse's voice. Sometimes he's sort-of singing along with whatever song is playing, sometimes just talking to the cats, but he's always there, and it puts Andrew at ease. Jesse hasn't run away screaming yet, and it's nice.
It's nice to be able to stumble out of their bed room and wraps his arms around Jesse's waist, pressing a kiss to the side of his neck and being greeted with the same shy smile. It's nice to be able to touch Jesse, because it's a luxury. Their schedules don't always match up, and phone calls over long distances only help so much. Sometimes Jesse will call, overwhelmed with whatever, and Andrew has to stop himself from ditching whatever he's doing and hopping on the next plane to wherever Jesse is. It's not conducive to life if he's heartsick whenever he's more than a hundred feet away from Jesse.
Whoever said absence makes the heart grow fonder was obviously not so wholly in love that it pained them, that their chest could not contain all the love they felt.
"Good morning," Jesse says, "did you sleep well?"
"As long as you exist when I wake up," Andrew says, "I will always sleep well."
Jesse turns, and Andrew presses their lips together. One of the cats (Andrew isn't sure which, can't always tell them apart) is whining for attention at their feet, but it can wait a moment. The whole world can wait a moment, because Jesse exists and Andrew exists and currently they are existing in the same approximate space.
The same thing happens every morning when they're together, basically, but it hasn't stopped making Andrew smile yet.
