Am I the only one infuriated by this? There are really no words as to how badly I want this teacher fired. I mean... fer chrissake, these are freakin' third graders!

Right. And this isn't even a Obama vs. McCain issue, which I perhaps should clarify in the OP now that I think about it. It's a "Let's cram my own opinions down these kids' throats and make them feel bad if they don't believe what I do" issue. I'd be just as pissed if the teacher were a McCain supporter...at least I'd like to think, anyway.

I remember back in first/second grade during the '92 elections they had all the grade-schoolers do a mock election over who they wanted as president: Bush Sr., Clinton, or Perot. I was wise enough to pick Ross Perot because he had the biggest ears. :D

But we all had light fun about it. I wasn't indoctrinated with politics at that age. Nor was I talked down by any teachers with their own agendas. In Texas there'd be an extreme outrage from any and all parents of kids in that school. Hopefully, this teacher is facing just as much heat.

^ In high school, I had a history teacher that marked you wrong if you didn't write your papers with his pet political bias. If you even did your best to present the information in a neutral point of view, he'd mark you down for it. It was infuriating - I was and am of the opinion that political indocrination has no place in school. History and politics eductation should be about giving the kids the known, documented facts and encouraging them to form their own opinions. */rant*

...I'm sorry, but there's no words other than "What a fucking bitch!"

And then she has the nerve to tell the camera that she's okay with her students being in support of McCain and that she just "moved on"! She purposefully lured that girl into speaking up so that she could slap her back down! Oh, and I just loved how one kid's sole reason for supporting Obama was race, and that didn't get opened up for discussion.

And like you've said, it's completely ridiculous - Cathy even says that the reason she's pulling for McCain is that he's her parents' favored candidate. She doesn't even know one way or the other, and this teacher stands there and basically tells her that by supporting McCain, she and her parents are forcing soldiers to stay in the military and get killed. WTF. I hope that this bitch came under a lot of heat for this.

...actually, hold up a sec. Judging from the comments, it looks like this has been deliberately edited - the original is somewhere else.

It doesn't make it any less rage-inducing but it is something for consideration.

At least, as far as I can see, the point of the video seems to be to show that this teacher was trying to influence her students, and didn't really think they were all entitled to their own opinions, so at least someone else has noticed (though I don't know what language the translation is in, so I don't know where it is that the've noticed)

I'm no linguist, but that looks like Swedish or Norwegian to me.

It was filmed by a Finnish documentarian. Not too far off.

The text is in Swedish, though. (Some people in Finland also speak Swedish).

And on the content: that teacher lady needs to sit down and see what she's really saying to those kids; "Your opinion is reeeeally stupid. It's OK, though, I just want you to know that it's stuuuuupid. Everyone is entitled to a silly opinion, right?" Duh.

The superintendent has promised to investigate.
Charles at LGF calls the teacher a bully. I think he's right, and it's frustrating that society as a whole has gotten hypersensitive about kids bullying kids but tends not to notice teachers bullying kids unless there's audio/video proof as in this case.

Thanks for the update/link, Rosie. I'm glad the superintendent made such a quick response. I can only hope we will get an equally fast result.

^ SO MUCH WORD.

My parents knew that I was bullied in third grade. What they refused to believe until other people started telling stories about that third grade teacher is that the teacher I had in third grade was the ring leader of it - they thought I was being oversensitive and that I just didn't like the woman. Teachers have easily as much of an incidance rate as kids for bullying kids, and nobody wants to hear about it.

i would like to address this! I lived through a bullying teacher when I was in fourth grade. It was horrible! Every single day, he did his d@mdest to ruin my self-esteem, turned his back when the other kids harrassed me (following his example) and singled me out every day to verbally attack me for any and every little thing he could think of. I complained to the principal (along with my mom), but the principal thought i was just some stupid kid and did nothing about it! I praye for death every night. In the fourth grade, my nightly prayer was, "Please, God, don't let me wake up in the morning. I can't handle this anymore. Let me die."

In Fourth freaking Grade!

I think I still hate him for that.
