On one hand, it was difficult, the idea of leaving his Sickbay, his own little kingdom on board Jim's ship. But after chasing away the last of the medics, Bones sat in his office, finishing entering some private data.

As in a hurry he was to get to their beachfront home, Bones knew that Jim wouldn't be leaving until every one else was gone, so he had some time to complete the last of his paperwork before heading to the transporter pads with his bag. This time, he hoped they would arrive home together.

Picking up his communicator, he pressed the button. "Sickbay to the Bridge - Captain, you up there?"

"You, you too," he murmured, cupping Jim's cheek with one hand. There were things he wanted to say, words in his heart that stayed inside for now. But the blush on his face told what his mouth couldn't - that he felt everything Jim did, all of it.

Kissing the smile off of Jim left him breathless. "Those are two very good ideas, captain," Bones told him, lips dragging along Jim's jawline. "Gonna have a lot of time for both those things, I hope... and some camping," he added with a little smile of his own.

Their own Christmas tradition - it made him grin to think about their future, how they would continue it as long as they could find a place to pitch their tent.

"Wouldn't be Christmas without camping." Jim cupped the back of Bones' neck, tilting his head so Bones could continue. "I plan to make sure every inch of that house gets introduced to us, that barbecue on the back deck gets a lot of use, and so does the beach behind the house."

Seeing Bones blush was pretty rare, and Jim couldn't help his huge grin at the sight of it.

"Lots of good memories of that place," he murmured, continuing his explorations of Jim's throat. Where they had first been together, that first time, learning each others bodies all over that house; every room filled with moans and sighs and skin.

"I sure like it when you smile," Bones told him, pulling his head back to drop a little kiss on Jim's lips, then pressing their foreheads together. "You doing good?" he asked, looking at Jim carefully. Things had been so hectic lately, with getting everything and everyone prepared for shore leave, they'd missed their early mornings and late night conversations, the only time that was set aside for them.

It was tough sometimes, with their schedules, to find time just for each other. Sickbay was a hell of a place to run, and Jim was constantly needed somewhere, so mornings and bedtime became important time. "Doing good," Jim murmured, giving a small smile back. "How about you?" It was his turn to search Bones' face. It was a game of trust, having to trust that Bones would actually tell him if something was wrong, and knowing he was being trusted to do the same.

"Okay," he replied, knowing Jim wasn't just talking about Sickbay - if something were up there, Bones wouldn't hesitate to tell Jim. But the small things, the more personal problems, this was where they were still learning to trust and open up. "You know, Christmas and all," he said, knowing Jim would understand. Neither man was truly comfortable with the holiday season.

"Seems like last year there was more to worry about, with all the new people on board, everyone wanting us to celebrate." It had been weird, his mother on board, planning parties with George. "But for some reason, though no one has really brought it up, I feel really strange about it all."

"Now that you mention it..." Jim's brows went together as he thought about it. "I haven't heard anything at all about the holidays from anyone. Maybe they learned from last year?" But he sounded a bit dubious about it. Why was that?

"...Christmas. We'll have each other, that's enough for me." Jim smiled, brushing his fingertips through Bones' fingers.

"...Always been enough," Bones murmured back, lacing their fingers together. Small touch that meant so much. "Want to do better than that, Jim," he said quietly, their faces close together. "Want to give you everything."

"You do give me everything," Jim said back, squeezing Bones' hand. "Not anything more I could ask for." He shifted his head so their cheeks pressed together, his eyes closing.

But there was more they could give each other - maybe it didn't mean so much in the long run, just some words, a promise.

Maybe one day... "Then we agree, no presents for each other?" he asked, playfully arching a brow. Jim was a sneaky son of a bitch, and Bones needed some reassurance that he wasn't going to be left empty-handed again this year, no gift for Jim.

Knowing exactly what Bones was getting at, Jim just laughed. "Nothing this year. I could never top last year so as long as you're okay with the gift of incredibly sex, I think we're good." He slipped a hand down to squeeze Bones' ass with a waggle of his brows.

"Well, alright then," he rested his arms around Jim's shoulders, pulling him close as Jim's hands slid down his body. Nothing else ever made him feel quite as loved and wanted.

"All I want to open up Christmas morning is some warm biscuits over a campfire, and this..." Bones let his fingers dangle low, slipping under Jim's waistband as their eyes met. "I think this could be the best trip ever, you know?"

He couldn't explain why he felt so optimistic about their shore leave, he just did.

Jim shuddered, feeling himself start to get very interested in Bones' touch. "Shit, Bones... least let me lock down the bridge if you're going to go that far." He laughed, but it was a low sound that made his eyes dance. "You, campfire, and nature? Sounds like my idea of a perfect holiday..."

He nuzzled softly at Bones' neck, turning him around slightly so Bones' legs ended up on either side of him.

Bones tilted back a little. "You haven't locked it down already?" he asked, mock irritation on his face giving way to amusement. Leaning back toward Jim, he kissed him once more, lingering, before pulling away with a sigh.

Camping... Jim had taught him about camping. Jim, for being as young as he was, had taught Bones a lot of things, about love and sex and relationships and what it meant to really trust someone.

And how to come to love and enjoy something as god-awful as camping. "No, Jim," he whispered in his ear, his knees settling against Jim's hips. He could feel just how 'interested' Jim was getting... felt so good, their erections rubbing against each other, made him want to bend him over the chair and take him right now. "I'm gonna make you wait until we get down there before I pull these off, and suck your cock."

Make them both wait, but fuck if he was going to let Jim see how badly he wanted it right now, too (as if it wasn't completely written all over his face and tenting his pants).

Jim let out a small breath, groaning low as he lost Bones' lips against his. He shuddered at Bones' words, grabbing his ass and giving a grind against him. "You're such a cock tease," Jim growled, his eyes playful. He'd ruin Bones later. "...evil, evil doctor."

"No teasing, darlin'," he spoke against Jim's lips, hips canting shallowly twice against Jim. "I'm gonna exhaust you tonight, I fuckin' promise."

And tomorrow morning. And the next evening. And probably sometime in between.
